Baby's coming home outfit
DH and I decided that a 'regular' baby outfit is just fine, and we don't need to get anything fancy for a coming home outfit, esp. since we don't know the sex yet. So, I'm not sure if a onesie with no legs is okay or not since it will be June, or if I should bring a long-sleeve sleeper with feet?? And, should I bring a side-snap shirt for inside the sleeper? If the sleeper has feet, no need for socks, or booties, right? Is one outfit enough if we come straight home from the hospital? What do hospitals keep babies in during the stay, just a diaper and swaddled in a blanket??
I'm worried what kind of mom I'm going to be when I can't even make these simple decisions

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
June 22nd was about 75 degrees and sunny when we left. I had Emma in a shorts romper with hat and booties. I also had her wrapped in a blanket only because she didnt have any body fat and I didnt want her to catch a chill. A long sleeve sleeper will be ok but if for some reason its 90 degrees it would be nice for the baby to be able to easily remove some clothing. Bring the side-snap for under the sleeper if its chilly out. Yes, sleeper with feet = no socks. One outfit should be fine BUT you may want to pack one extra JIC he/she spits up or has a wild poo OR something happens to the one you are putting them in and you need to change (ALWAYS something good to remember for when you are out with baby all the time)
In my hospital Emma was in a long sleeve side snap shirt, diaper and blanket.
YOU ARE GOING TO BE A GREAT MOM BECAUSE YOU WORRY ABOUT THESE SIMPLE THINGS

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
Yes to all your questions. Although I had an autumn baby, I'd assume you'd want something warmer just in case. Look at today's weather, you never know. Don't forget a cotton cap for his/her little head.Luke was also in a long sleeve side snap shirt and diaper and the usual receiving blanket with the wide pink stripe and the wider bluish green stripe in the hospital. I'm a thief! I took one of the receiving blankets home for his (MY!) memory box.

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
dont worry NIHA..it is better to ask ?S. All of us first time moms have LOTS of them!I would second the general opnion ..and say bring one extra outfit, I had a special onsie only cuz Bubbe boughtit..otherwise a plain one piece would have worked along with the sweater I brought for her ( it was JAN 5)
In the hospital, they keep them in a diaper, a side snap(or tie) shirt and a cap...wrapped up in theor standard blankie.
Does your hospital offer having the baby room in with you ...or only stay in the nursery? Mine offered romming in and we did that on my 2nd day there. Gets u used to their rhythms and changing the diapers!

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
Don't stress. I am sure that you will be a great mom. The main thing to remember is that you shouldn't dress a baby any differently than you dress yourself. I had an early September baby with my first one and I think I had a snowsuit with me
. I was so worried the baby would be cold. I can laugh about it now but who knew? Make it as easy as you can on yourself. Bring 2 sleepers, one long sleeve and one short sleeve. Then whatever the weather you will be prepared.

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
Niha - I have something to add to Wendys post - I read somewhere that:If you are comfortable in one layer then dress a newborn in 2 layers
If you are comfortable in 2 layers dress the baby in 3
And so on.

Re: Baby's coming home outfit
Ditto to what Karen said...the baby will ALWAYS need one more layer of clothing than you will. This is a very good general rule to live by when outfitting your newborn.Edited to add: you can always touch the baby's hands and feet to judge whether their skin is cold. Our first pediatrician told us this.
Don't forget a soft knit cap for the baby's head. You will need to keep the baby's head covered for awhile, even after they are home...it helps them feel cozy.
Don't worry...it's normal to be concerned...you're gonna be a great Mommy, Niha!
