How far in advance do you have to start thinking about the wedding cake?
I have over a year until my wedding, but this wasn't something I was thinking about because my hall was including it. Now I think I'm switching to a place that does not include it... A whole new thing to think about
So, when is a good time in the planning process to start thinking about this? Also, while we're on the subject, any recommendations for bakers? Thanks!

My hall provides the cake, so I won't think about it until 3-4 weeks before.

I'm in the same boat as Marcella.I'd say collect pics of what you like...gather opinions on different bakers...you could probably book with a baker whenever you felt like it - if you prefer to get things out of the way.

Re: How far in advance do you have to start thinking about the wedding cake?
my cake was included in the hall...but I still wanted a say in it...I probably met with our halls baker 3-4 months before the wedding...otherwise I would have picked it out with my catering manager 6 weeks before the weekend...
if you want a baker...I would check outAudrey's Bakery in West Sayville they did my cake...the guy was fabulous to work with...and best...the cake was DELICIOUS!!! really...most of the time I don't like wedding cake...but I was blown away how good it tasted...
heres a picture of it...it was rolled white chocolate on the outside instead of icing...

That is such a great looking cake! Did you have to pay extra for something like that (above what was included in the hall)? I'll definitely check out Audrey's!

Re: How far in advance do you have to start thinking about the wedding cake?
I think I may have had to pay extra...he said it all depended on the price of chocolate the week of the wedding...well I didn't pay a dime extra...that might have also been b/c it was his first time doing a cake like this...and he put it in his portfolio...or maybe b/c I trusted him...
