What happened to our book club?

There weren't very many people who participated in out discussion for Good in Bed and there is no book lined up for this month.

Are we abandoning the book club?

Re: What happened to our book club?

I personally didn't like the last few book selections, and with all the new rules on voting, etc it became too confusing! LOL
I don't think you can vote for a future book unless you've participated in the last one??

Re: What happened to our book club?

I hope we don't abandon it. I like doing it...
I thought more people would participate since it seemed like so many people had read the book even before it was picked.

Re: What happened to our book club?

I thought we were voting on Bel Canto and The Red Tent??

As for me, if those are the books, I'm sitting out this round. I didn't enjoy The Red Tent, and Bel Canto doesn't look appealing.

Re: What happened to our book club?

I think we need an organizer...and maybe 2-3 different books...rather than one...so people will read the one(s) that they are interested in...

OR...should we take a well established book club...and use their books?

Re: What happened to our book club?

I like the idea of using another book club's books! I just think that voting will never satisfy everyone....I enjoy reading, and joined in the first book or two, but it seems to be dying over here....

Re: What happened to our book club?

I agree with using another clubs books. I think choosing the books to vote on is becoming too complicated.

Re: What happened to our book club?

Using other clubs books sounds good. I'm up for reading anything, but that would get rid of the voting aspect.

sounds good - I don't know of any other real book club other than Oprah's! LOL What are the good ones out there? How's Oprah's? All tear-jerker, girly-types?

Re: What happened to our book club?

What type of books do you ladies usually read? I like the classics, mysteries and those family era type books that span decades......

Re: What happened to our book club?

here is a list of online book clubs...

List

now we have to vote on which book club??

I would go for a notable one...like
A&E
women.com
book of the month/Yahoo

maybe pick up to 3 to vote for and we'll tally the votes?

Re: What happened to our book club?

I just went to the A&E bookclub site and there was this message ' SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT... The AandE.com book club is on hiatus indefinitely. We have archived the content for all previous selections, so please feel free to continue the discussions on the message boards.'

I guess that one is out!

Re: What happened to our book club?

I don't really have a suggestion. The voting thing does not seem to be working becuase according to our last poll, there should have been many poor participants in the Good in Bed discussion. So obviously people are voting and then not reading the book anyway.

I will go along with whatever we want to do. I don't mind Opera's bookclub, except I like to buy the books that I read and I hate that all of those books end up with 'Oprah's Bookclub' stamped on the cover.

I think I might read Red Tent next month regardless. So if anyone wants to have a smaller group discussion about Red Tent, I am up for that.
(Sorry JennRenee )

Re: What happened to our book club?

I think Yahoo has a bunch of book clubs online. We can sign up for them, (its free) and check out what they are reading. I think some are geared towards women too.
