FYI Pictures of your home for insurance purposes
Looking at the beautiful pictures posted by Trish and Laura of their homes reminded me of this insurance tip that your broker may not have told you. It is invaluable in the event of a fire/flood/robbery. Unfortunately a friend of mine just went through this.Catalogue your home and all your valuable items on film or photos. Keep this documentation in addition to receipts. Be very specific when photographing. Photograph identifiable manufacturer markings such on items such as furniture, china, crystal and silver. Photograph or film everything your appliances, furniture, electronic equipment etc. Keep the receipts and photos someplace other than your home.
Hopefully none of us will need these records but its good to have them.

Re: FYI Pictures of your home for insurance purposes
Fran that is an excellent piece of advice. In addition you should make sure that you update your pics or video at least once a year so that you include any new items you may have purchased or any new work you have done on your home.Another tip is to make sure that you carry full dwelling replacement coverage on your policy. This means that the cost to replace your home will be fully covered by your insurance, even if it is more than the coverage you carry. There is a small charge for this coverage but it is worth it, especially since prices for everything on LI go up every day.

Re: FYI Pictures of your home for insurance purposes
Fran, thanks for your compliment. That’s one of the main reason we keep every single HD/Lowe’s receipt, etc., in addition to cataloguing all our pictures! My hubby thinks I’m neurotic, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Besides, we bought the house for $XX and want to be able to show we put into it $XX when we sell, if ever.

We do the same as Trish...photograph every step as well as keep all receipts. Now I just have to remember to put them all in the fire safe!
