flute glasses and cake knife question

why do people buy and bring these items to their wedding? dosent the hall provide both?is there meaning?

I was going to use what the hall provided...but my sister ended up getting flutes for me from prague...so they were really nice...

we used the hall's cake cutter though

it is a very nice reminder of the day...
if you dont want to spend much..
Maces Closeout(stores across long island).. have glasses that say bride and groom $3.
also cake cutter set for $3....
