Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

I'm going to try on gowns tomorrow for the first time. Is casual attire (jeans, no sneaks) inappropriate to go there in, and do I need to bring stockings and heels? Don't want to look silly.

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

excellent question! i wore whatever i was wearing, but i'm perpetually casual. i noticed that some people dress a little nicer - it's up to you though. if you have a strapless, bring it, otherwise they should have one for you....oh, and they should also have shoes for you to wear with the dress, so don't worry about that...unless there are specific shoes you want to wear with your dress!
Enjoy!
It's so much fun - you'll feel like a princess!

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

I would take with you whatever you'd like to wear underneath, but personally, I like being able to say, 'Oh, it's going to look so much better when I have control top on, etc....' haha. As for what you should wear there, I have run into so many trashy, rude people shopping for dresses, so I don't think anyone will scoff at you if you have jeans on. Afterall, it's going to be a long day, be comfy. JMO.

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

Excellent! I got a pair of the 'I will hopefully not have to wear these on my wedding day due to the exercise & diet regimen I'm going to begin' undergarments today!

Do people help you put your dress on or do you do it yourself?

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

Being as self conscious as I am, I had my friend zip me up, but that was it. I guess it depends on where you go to look and how big the dressing area is. And what you are comfy with Have fun and a great piece of advice is try on everything, especially things that you think will not look good. That's how I ended up with my dress, I thought it would look horrible, but it looked amazing. Let us know how it goes!

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

i was told to bring a strapless bra, stockings so the dress goes on and off smoother and shoes with the heel comparable to what you want for your wedding shoes.

hope this helps

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

I agree with Princess Rachel, try everything on. Things look different on than they do on a hanger. Be comfy, I wore jeans and sneakers. I know it sounds silly but you might want to bring a bottle of water with you, you don't know how long you will be and believe it or not is is fun but tiring to try on dresses. Have fun!!!!!

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

I wore whatever-jeans and a T, but always a strapless bra and always granny panties! the first time I went i had on a thong and I really didn't like having some stranger looking at my bare ass!

Most places let you put on the slip while the saleslady waits outside, but others (like bridal couture) leave you naked in the dressing room with the door half open and people looking in! I bought a pair of 'boy short' girly undies purposely for dress shopping just to be safe!

ETS-Definitely bring a bottle of water! When I bought my dress I was so overwhelmed I almost passed out! Apparently I was not the only one to do this, so the shop had cold bottles of water on hand!

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

definitely try everythign on! things that you may not love on the hanger will surprise you.

i remember the first dress i tried on was my dream gown of three years and seeing it on my body was a horrifying experience! it looked so bad that i can't even find words to describe it!

and the dress i finally picked out was strapless which i've always sworn i wouldn't wear...so you really never know.

also, just be prepared...every place i went to - the women who worked there came in and put the dresses on me. i was completely uncomfortable at first...but it almost grew on me after a while. i was too timid to ask them to let me dress myself. i guess if you'e not comfy with that sort of thing they really can't argue with you.

Most importantly - give everythign a chance and have a great time!

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

This was a very important issue to me becuase I am nervous when people see me in my undies. But, no one but my firend who zipped me in and out actually saw anything. I would make sure to wear a decent bra and beyond that I think anything goes.

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

Thank you all-

I've decided I'm going with the comfy cotton, bringing stockings & strapless bra. TMI?

Palebride- you sound exactly like me about not wanting a strapless gown! I guess you really never know until you try them on! We'll see, tomorrow...

Re: Quick ? about wedding gown shopping-

I wore - jeans, a t-shirt, and boyshort undies. If you already have the shoes you want, bring them with you, if not try to bring a pair of shoes with the same height heel that you want (I wouldn't want my feet in shoes someone else was sweating in) If you can bring a friend or relative with you, definitely do, I brought my mom and if I had had to wait for the girl that was helping us I would have been there all day. They will usually provide the slip and bra and they give you the option to purchase them too.

Definitely bring water - any time you have to put the dress on! They weigh a ton and I almost passed out at my first fitting!

Good luck and have fun!
