I'm not Italian, nor do I speak Italian, but I do go to Italian restaurants - I think the word you're looking for may be 'dolci'

So Italian is close to Spanish, which I do speak fluently - in Spanish, 'dulce' is sweet, so 'dolci' will almost definitely mean the same in Italian (I'd put money on it) - whether it's the appropriate term for dessert I don't know, but it is often on menus in Italian restaurants.

Dolci means sweets and is the closest to desserts. There isn't a word per se. There is a translation for pastries, but it doesn't mean desserts. I would stick with Dolci.
