another question for teachers working in a school district :)
when you first got hired, did they train you on how to set up lesson plans, communicate with parents and other district procedures? i seriously have been thinking about leaving my job and i am curious if distrcts go over these things or are you supposed to know it already. thanks for any info.

Re: another question for teachers working in a school district :)
I had to go to training for a week the summer before I started. They didn't go over lesson plans. They introduced people. Did the workshops needed by the state. Tour. That sort of thing.Honestly, ever school /administor wants the lesson plans handed in differently. They go over things like that at the first day meetings .
Are you a teacher leaving your teaching job? Or someone just starting in teaching? If you are new, your university training will teach you all about planning so don't worry!
good luck

My district set us upwith a 'mentor' who is supposed to guide you on all of the things you mentioned until you are tenured.

Re: another question for teachers working in a school district :)
We have a mentor program in our district too - I think it is GREAT to have, because they show you the ropes...(parent phone logs, lesson plans, who are the gossipers of your building, etc.)...As said earlier, each principal determines how they want you to submit your lessons....some only want your basic plans, some want details like the standards each lesson will meet, etc.
There is usually an orientation for new teachers district wide and building wide. Any questions you have will be asked during that time. Teachers in your building are helpful as well as a resource of information that you need.
You are expected to have an understand of everything, but not necessarily exactly what the particular district wants. But you're also expected to be innovative - not just follow what's always been in place, but suggest different ways of doing things...
good luck!!

NOTHING! We were supposed to have a mentor-- never saw her. My district feels you graduated college you should know what to do!!But Jenn is right every district and admin. wants it done differently. Now that I have a new principal I don't know what is waiting for me.

I think it really all depends on the school you are in.On my first day, the principal gave me the keys to my classroom and said, have a good day. I get great support there!
