Another question for those who did/are doing table names
I am so looking forward to doing this- it will be a great way to personalize our wedding. My concern is with the guests. I have this feeling they will be confused beyond belief and will be the biggest morons.
Did any of you have your Maitre D make an announcement at the cocktail hour to inform the guests that they should be looking for a name instead of a number? Or did people just figure it out on their own.

Re: Another question for those who did/are doing table names
I was recently at a wedding and the bride and groom decided to do both. They named the tables after places they had visited togther and then just below in just slightly smaller text was the table #. Guests did not seem confused at all.

Re: Another question for those who did/are doing table names
We are doing just names. I think the guests will be able to pick up on it. If some don't, they can always ask the person standing next to them. I'm not concerned at all about it.

Re: Another question for those who did/are doing table names
I was so worried about this, in fact my husband picked out names from Lord of the Rings that I couldn't even pronounce, but the staff has a copy of table numbers that match up with the table names so there was very little confusion.. Go for it, it was such a special touch..

I think they can figure it out. I might write a number in smaller type. But not sure yet. What size frames are you using? I am going to start searching for frames.

Hey Wanda!!!!
I purchased some beautiful silver pewter frames from Odd Jobb. They are 5x7.
Wacky and Lizlen got a great deal on frames at some store on the Island. $1.00. They looked great.

I got wood painted pewter frames from Michael's for $5 each but they were 8x10. I wish I had a pic of the table names on me, but you'll see them when I post pics after this w/e!!

Ok Nvrbrd...are you sure that this isn't my FH posing as Nvrbrd? You sound just like him. As a matter of fact, we had an arguement about it! He swears that no one will be able to figure it out. They will. Don't worry. As a matter of fact, the staff will help em out. The Maitre D is getting a hefty tip from me that I'm being FORCED to pay!....he better help out!

Re: Another question for those who did/are doing table names
We named our tables- no numbers and it was fine. Unless you are having 20+ tables, then IMO it might get difficult. On our place candles (instead of cards) we just put the table name.
My husband's hobby is to visit baseball parks throughout the US (he has only 2 more left) and he is a hobbiest photographer our tables were named after baseball stadiums and our table cards were made from his photos. It was a way of giving him a part of the planning since most everything else was my taste.
Not one guest had a problem finding their table.

Table names
My guests figured it out. One thing I thought about doing but did not have the time at the end was to create a floorplan with the layout of the tables and you would place this by the placecards so that your guests can see where their tables are prior to entering the ballroom.

We are just doing names. I hope that they will be able to figure it out. It doesn't say much for our gene pool if they can't

Re: Another question for those who did/are doing table names
I plan on just doing the names- if they get confused and have to walk around and around to find their tables - than the names were a success-- b/c by getting lost they will have had read all of the other names and thus - the conversations begin to flow and flow along with laughter.
