A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

How do you work the exercise into your regular workday? I can't seem to find time, again, leaving home at 7:30, and not coming back until 8pm, exhausted...

I need to get the exercise into my schedule and still see DH in the evening!!!

Help!!! PLEASE!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

That's a tough schedule. Can you flex your hours at all? Or can you go to the gym early in the morning? Or during your lunch break?
If you can't and you can only workout on the weekends, that's better than nothing.

I also find it hard to workout sometimes - I get up a 5:45 a.m. and don't get home until 5:15 p.m. I'm exhausted, but I drag myself to the gym (and FH too if he's home). I feel so much better afterwards. Kinda sux though because I feel like all I do all week is go to work, go to the gym, eat, do homework, and go to bed. What a life!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

Annie, I have tried a few mornings to get up at 5:45 for the gym, and usually without much success. If I get to sleep early enough, I can get up then, and exercise from 6-6:45 or so, and then get home, shower and go to work... Otherwise, the exercise is left to 8pm time...

I must try harder. What are you studying for / doing homework?

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

I love working out early in the morning, when I was in law school, I'd get to the gym at 5 am, or even 4:45 am.

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

Maybe you can get up early once or twice during the week and then try to work out either Saturday or Sunday or both? I know it's hard to get up early during the week to go workout. I absolutely hate it. But if you get all your stuff ready the night before, like get your lunch ready, put your clothes out, etc., that might help. So that way all you have to do is workout, shower, grab your stuff and head to work.

I'm finishing up my Master's in Communications Technology. It's IT mixed with some business classes, like Economics and Statistics (yuck! )

Good luck!!!!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

i also try to get up about 30 min early to exercise. sure i'd rather sleep - but it is the only time i can fit it in (i have a similar work schedule). i also try to do little things during the day to stay active. for example, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park in a far spot and speed walk to the building, if i can fit it in, i try to walk at lunch. i usually wear running shoes and bring my heels so i can really walk. good luck!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

I leave for work at 7:30 and am lucky if I'm home by 7pm...my solution was to get some exercise tapes and do stuff at home...I already had a bike and a rowing machine.

I get up at 5-5:30am and work out for at least an hour (cardio 45, weights 15-30) every morning. After 1 month, I couldn't function without the am workout. I enjoy the news also...

It's great - first thing off your list done and no distractions or excuses!!! And the results are worth it!

hope this helps!

FH and I go to the gym together at night after I get home from work, usually from 8-8:30 until 10

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

I'm with Kathi...I love the mornings...plus it feels so good during the day knowing that you already worked out...

I used to get up at 4 am!!!! (being a teacher I'm at school at 6:30-7:00)

in the beginning I would wear my gym clothes to bed...then it made it easier getting up...throwing on sneakers...

I was going to suggest lunch too. Would your FH exercise with you? Dale comes with me somtimes for a walk or a run. I remind him it is only 45 minutes out of the day!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

I really like working out in the mornings if you can get up. I get to work at like 7:30 but when I'm working out I get here at 7 and then start working about 8 or 8:15. I try and run in the mornings for a 1/2 hr and at least one time on the weekend (in the am again). It's really been helping. I am feeling so much better these days it's like a whole new me. Your best bet is to do what you can when you can. I suggest try the 1/2 hr in the morning before you go to work. Like some at home tapes or something. Those tend to be a bit easier then trying to leave your house and go to the gym!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

Another thing to do is to make it a point to go on the weekends. Once Saturday and once Sunday. That way you only need to fit in two days durring the week.

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

FH and I work out together. I work in the city and get home late. He works on LI but he is a workaholic so he gets home late, too. We work out together and it feels break. We motivate each other, too.

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

I go a couple hours before work. I work out for 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours a day. I do 45 - 60 minutes of cardio and about 45 - 60 of bodybuilding. I am not an athlete or a bodybuilder or a super model, by any stetch of the imagination. I had to drop at least 20 lbs. in 4 months before my wedding, which is why my work-out so intensely. I'm also on the Zone Diet. I have dropped the equivalant to 25 lbs., thus far, and my wedding is in a little less than two months. Now, I'm just going for the gusto. My wedding gown has gone down two sizes! I can't wait to see what the end result will be.

Alina- you don't need much you skinny minny!
Can you go at lunch? That's what I've been doing, it's hard at first, but you get the hang of it and actually start looking forward to going.

Blissbride- that's amazing! You go girl!!! keep it up, I'm sure your dress is going to look so flattering on you, no matter what size it is Congrats on attaining your goal though! That's awesome!!! I've got 10 more pounds to go by 10/19

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

Michele, I can't go at at lunch... I did try it at my old job (where the gym was in the building), but I get shy, and I never feel clean after the gym showers. Never mind the fact that at this job, most of the time I eat at my desk, while reading some work stuff...

I went to the gym on Sat. and Monday, and want to try for tomorrow AM, see if I can get up. Its great that you are able to go at lunch consistently (and still leave at a decent time, I hope)

I know you'll look great for the wedding!!!

Re: A question for those who exercise regularly to maintain or lose weight

DH and I used to work out for an hour in the morning, starting at 5am or 5:30am. It worked out well when our schedules were similar to yours. I can't work out at night, I'm too tired.
