Saw a bad accident on the Grand Central
this morning - I started crying when I saw it because both minivans were flipped over - on was hanging over the railing - the other had the top off of it - Why do people speed in such weather? Nothing else could have caused an accident that bad
- I hope those people are alright.

Re: Saw a bad accident on the Grand Central
August 8, 2003, 10:49 AM EDTA sport utility vehicle and a 15-passenger van collided on the Grand Central Parkway this morning, killing the SUV driver and shutting down two lanes in each direction.
The accident occured at around 7:30 a.m. on the westbound side of the highway, just east of the merge to the Long Island Expressway. The gray SUV rolled over and landed on a guard rail that divides the east and westbound lanes. Rescue crews were forced to cut off the roof of the blue van to reach the driver who was pinned inside. The van was not carrying any passengers.
Both drivers were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, fire department officials said.
The status of the van driver was not known.
As of 10:45 a.m., two lanes in each direction were still shut down as fire and police officials cleaned up and investigated the accident.
