Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

OMG.. what an icky day to go gown shopping.

Yes, I dress shop alone. I know one in New York so I go solo. Now I already had a dress in mind..

Macy's Manhasset: Faye- very nice. she asked questions and go to know me. Understood my tattoo needs (for those who don't know I got one after 9/11 because I survived it, my friend didn't and I had surgery on new years eve.. tattoo sorta memorializes the whole thing). She showed me this dress and WOW.. LOVE.. god.. but it's pricy.. still may buy it.

Bridal Reflections Carle Place. Ok, so im wearing a Tshirt and Jeans and the day is icky so I'm not donw up or pretty. So what? I got TOTALLY blown off. Sit and we'll get to you. Didn't even ask my name. Saw one woman checking out my ring, the lady behind the desk noticed her, then noticed my ring and sweetly came over to ask if I needed anything. PLEASE! They made me an appt for Friday. *shrug* but don't carry demetrios.

David's Bridal Carle Place. Etta greeted me at the door. I told her what i was looking for. She looks at my wedding date, takes me over to the size 10 area and says 'if you find something you like, let me know. RUDE. Of course they didn't have anything off the shoulder. She says 'why would you want one' uhmm I said I've always dreamed of an off the shoulder gown (which is true). She shrugged and said and i QUOTE! 'You've already limited yourself, that such a very bad idea' and starts looking off like im boring her!! The nerve.
Worse, my MOH & BMs will prolly end up buying from Davids and this is the treatment the BRIDE gets!

Had to vent.

My first visit out was the Wedding Center in Commack even they were nicer!

Re: Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

Don't take it the wrong way, but I sorta agree with the toman at David's (even though I abhor that place)...I went dress shopping with a particular look in mind - A-line, NO beading/pearls/etc, NO lace. I wound up with a totally different look, after having tried on 50 dresses in the style I was intent on buying.

the thing is, what we picture in our mind and what actually looks and feels good on us, can sometimes be 2 very different things.

My advice - and do with it as you wish - would be to call for appointments in advance...clip a ton of pictures of dresses that you love...bring some water and go to town!

Best of luck to you...

PS - I found 'the' dress on my own too...I went back this weekend with 2 BMs and my stepmom to buy it...it was about the 60th dress I tried on.

Re: Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

The dress I'm looking at is like $1725 at Macy's.. it's not like I'm a total cheap slob. I just want a good deal. I'm bone weary now. dungholes ruined my mood

I wasn't dressing with an idea in my mind (sorry if it seemed that way) I have tried on offically 20 gowns. 5 of which in the design that I have 'in mind'. 2 of which were lovely. I am in love with the one at Macy's but I want to make sure my 'jewel' wasn't somewhere else waiting to be found. I asked to see a type of dress. She didn't even try to 'politely' find out why. She was rude and curt. Which is uncalled for. PLUS I'm always open to new ideas. After all.. I was not too sold on the one I'm in love with now at Macy's .. looked too girly on the rack.. but Im willing to try..OOOOOH LOVE

Re: Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

Oh, I'm sorry, I guess I read your post wrong. It really svcks when the salespeople have no regard for someone who is about to drop a LOT of $$$ on an item that is only worn once...and therefore the notion of wanting THE one, is intensified. Jerks.

I bought my gown at Paradise Bridal in Patchogue - I've been working with Donna and she's been amazing...calling me from home to follow up on something, working to get a BM gown in for me to look at, etc. They have a huge selection...and she took 10% off my gown without me even asking or trying to negotiate.

Re: Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

Davids bridal was nothing but nasty to me. I walked right out and got my Bm dressses and MOH dresses at The Wedding Plaza in Baldwin, and the other dresses at The Bridal garden in bethpage. They have both been wonderful. My veil just came in as promised in about 4 weeks. I can totally understnand your fustrations! Bridal reflections was snobby to me and had a BM convinced they can redo a whole gown for her to fit properly even though she was too heavy for it. That store caused me a lot of aggravation.

Re: Went gown shopping (alone), 3 places.. my ordeal...(long/vent)

FYI- My MOH got a demetrios for her wedding in May (it was off the shoulder as well) we went to Macys Bridal in Lake Grove and the price was $400 more than Adriannes on Main Street in East Islip. The women there were really nice to us and the day we first came in we looked like drowned rats as it was raining so hard! So you may want to try there!
