Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

Did anyone watch Dateline last night? They interviewed the doctor that created the South Beach Diet. I thought this was a complete fad, but this is basically what I did last summer to lose weight before my wedding!

It sounds really good and actually HEALTHY, but my only problem is that I do not eat any fish or seafood.

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

teri...I thought the same exact thing...until I saw dateline...I think it is a great idea...I like the idea that it was an accident and it is REALLY healthy...

but I don't like fish either...I have to figure breakfasts out too...

If you want a partner...we can try over the boards to motivate...John even said that he would be interested in doing it

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

Sure! DH should begin a diet too, but at least he's not really a picky eater!

My biggest problem is that I love carbs - at least I know what to cut down on, and I do when motivated, I just need to figure out what to supplement with the carbs. You don't want to eat too much protein either - too much of anything isn't a good thing.

I first need to read up on the SBD and get a better idea of an average meal

When do you want to start?

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

John and I actually both started today...he had bacon and eggs (we bought center cut bacon...so it is much leaner)

I just had eggs...

John had tuna salad for lunch...I'm still struggling with this one...

I have some pork loin that I think I will GF grill tonight and cook some cauliflower and asparagus...

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

Erica - wait! I just heard that you can't have alcohol during the first phase of this diet - forget it, I can't do this...... j/k of course.

I do need to research this a bit more, hopefully this weekend when I have some time, but also heard that you can't have any fruits/veggies for the first phase either? IMO that's pretty limiting, and I can't see how that's healthy either. I know it's only for a limited time, but I'm practically a vegetarian! what am I supposed to eat the whole time, eggs?!

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

teri...I am the same way...but you can have veggies...check out the thread I started for the shopping list...

you just want to stay away from the high carb veggies...like carrots...

I'm doing lots of part skim mozzerella cheese as well...nuts...peanut butter!!! 2-3 tbs is really filling believe it or not...

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

Wow - this sounds cool.

I had avoided info on this diet - I thought it was just another 'fad'. But this actually makes sense to me.

Erica - did you buy the book?

Re: Interesting info about the South Beach Diet

This is the exact diet that I have been on many times before....but I never knew it had a name....I lost mostly inches on this diet....You slim down really fast. Just make sure you drink alot of water. Try to stay away from Caffiene because it slows down your metabolism, and also if you do drink coffee or decaf, try half and half instead of milk. Half and half has less than 1 carb, and less than 1 sugar in it. Thats another thing you have to stay away from, Sugar. Its not as hard as you think. If you are dedicated to losing the weight, you will do it.

I was on the diet for two months before i went to Florida. I lost weight, lost inches, and felt great. I had to stop the diet because all the protein didnt agree with me, and my stomach was always hurting me. If you notice this happening, stop the diet and try something else.

I am actually joining weight watchers tonight with my fiancee and her sister.

If you have any questions about what you can and cannot eat, let me know.....
