Response date for invites?

Let's say you can give your final list to your venue 10 days before wedding...what do you use as an RSVP date? I don't want people RSVPing 10 days before...what's the norm...one month before? three weeks???

We did a little over a month prior (36 days exactly), knowing that there will be those who won't rsvp by the date and we'll have to do the inevitable follow up, so we tried to make it easier on ourselves rather than the guests
