Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
I think this will be our final Halloween party. We havent done one in a few years b/c of 9/11 and then the wedding. But we had to have one more since we have too many halloween decorations going to waste - hahahh
So pls post some halloween costume and decor ideas.
This is an ADULT party (not porn star adult, just no kiddies) so keep that in mind.
Thanks :D

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
MY DH went one year as a 'serial killer'. He wore an old blazer that he didnt like anymore, bought a packet of those trial size cereal boxes and glued them on all over his jacket. Then he slicked back his hair (a la American Psycho) and carried a fake bloody knife.
I thought it was pretty clever

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
Here are some couple costume ideas I like:
Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf dressed up as Grandma (DH and I did this last year except, he was LRRH and I was the wolf
)
Sonny and Cher ( again you can have DH be Cher and you Sonny)
Cruella Deville and a dalamation pup
Jolly Green Giant and Sprout (good for a tall and petite couple)
Halloween is so fun!

For little red riding hood - what do you think I can wear? The premade costumes never fit/look right.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
cute for the front door:
cute invites:
GLOWING EYES
Using Christmas tree lights, place a small string of lights in bushes, behind a shower curtain or anywhere else you want to spook someone. Unscrew all bulbs but two (or hide the other bulbs with a blanket) and place them a few inches apart from each other. Turn them on as people walk by or notice them.
Another variation is to paint eyes on a large rock using glow-in-the-dark paint. Set the rock in the yard or near a tree.
HOMEMADE FOG
A block of dry ice will fog up a room in minutes. Place a small block of ice at the entrance of a room so it moves as people walk in. Put the dry ice in a bucket of warm water for a super foggy appeal. (Note: Dry ice will burn skin and shouldn't be handled without the use of heavy gloves.)
BLOODY GLASSES
You can make party cups and glasses more festive by dribbling fake blood on them. Make your own edible blood with corn syrup and food coloring. Pour a small amount of corn syrup into a shallow plate or bowl. Color the syrup with red food coloring. Dip the rim of each glass into the syrup and place glasses upright, allowing the mixture to run down the side of the glass.
Edible Eyeballs
Ingredients:
1 dozen hard boiled eggs Mayonnaise Onion Powder 24 green olives with pimentos Dry Yellow Mustard Salt Toothpicks Red Food Coloring (paste is best)
Directions:
1. Cut the eggs in half lengthwise. Scoop out the yolks into a bowl. Set whites aside for a moment.
2. Mash egg yolks with fork. Mix in mayonnaise, onion powder, mustard and salt. Stir well. Place 1 teaspoon of mixture in each half of egg whites.
3. Push a green olive into the center of the egg yolk mixture, making sure the red pimento is "looking" out.
4. Dip toothpick in red food coloring and make "red veins" in the yolk mixture.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
DH rented his LRRH costume, red cape, gingham dress, wig and all. Needless to say he looked great! Funny as Hel*!
Perhaps you can buy a red sheet or table cloth to make the hooded cape. You really don't need a dress, shorts/capris and a tee in a red/white combo would work. Definitely need a wig and a basket of goodies. The cape is the hard part.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
Thanks jen and msmay.
I dont think Luke is going to be too keen on being a wolf but I really like the LRRH idea.
I was thinking of being a geisha and he be a samurai. I think i could find good stuff in Chinatown to do the geisha but the samurai costume options seem weak. He has already nixed the idea of being a sumo.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
i know one cute halloween food I did was jello worms...
you need a one quart paper container - empty...100 drinking straws
then you fill the straws with jello (add alcohol if you want) and then squeeze the jello out of the straws when they have solidified...

Stef, If you do get DH to go for it, you are more than welcome to use my wolf mask, wolf hands, granny glasses and granny bonnet. I actually wear the nightgown I wore as Grandma and I also had wolf-like slippers that I have since worn through. Let me know.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
oh YAY!!!!! Stef I LOVE LOVE LOVE Halloween!!!!!! We have a party every year as well.
Ok....we have done the whole traditional bobbing for apples (that are floating in spiked punch of course), and this has always turned into bobbing for beers somehow....s'mores by the fire, everybody brings a ghost story - with no fireplace, a flashlight under anybody's chin works like a charm. We once had these skeleton strings of lights everywhere. A coffin style box filled with candy and bottles of Woodpecker Cider...pumpkin carving....
Costumes - we did Andy Warhol and Marilyn Monroe once. Slash and Axl Rose from Guns and Roses, Mobster and Flapper, this year we were planning Richard Gere and Julia Roberts "Pretty Woman" (but now I am preggie...and don't look much like Julia these days....), we have done the cast of Scooby Doo with another couple, and Shirley, Laverne, Lenny and Squiggy....
Let me know what you decide!!!!

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
There was a post on this on NWR - last week or maybe earlier in the week...and I think someone posted a website with ideas.
Teri - I did the Serial Killers in College - except we use oak tag and actualy made sandwich boards and drew the pictures from a the cereal box and colored them in. It was pretty good and I am by no means an artist but those boxes are pretty easy to mimic. It was a fun costume. We carried water guns and and stuff and underneath we dressed in all black.
DH and I are into throwing together our own custumes. We did babies one year. It was cute and easy to make yourself. Can buy lots of cute gadgets in the $1 store too! Another year we decided at the last minute to go to a party and did a guido and guidette - that one was hysterical because we acted the part all night. Talking in our best Brooklynese and stuff. Everyone said we looked like we came out of My Cousin Vinne. Straight from 80's hell. That was one of our favorites and it was easier than we thought to make.
Other things I have seen at my parties: Cop and trashy hooker - where guy is hooker and girl is cop, genie and pharoach, nun and priest, cowboy and indian, Fred and Wilma, hmmm...I will try to think of more.
I wish we could have a party this year - but now our anniversary coincides with Halloween!

I was considering haveing a halloween party this year too but instead of "traditional costumes" making it 80's themed and having everyone dress 80's style

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
Stef- To find a Samurai costume you can try one of the Martial Arts stores. They are not very expensive. You can get a regular Karate uniform (Gi) and add a few extra touches. Gi's run about $25-$30 for the inexpensive brands. The store I usually go to is called Honda and it is around 30th or 31st street. I will get the address for you.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
My friend is having a psychic at her party, for anyone who wants to buy a reading, but the "psychic" said she can only do 5 readings.
Also, use those glow stick lights to create an eerie "glow" wherever you need it.
Of couse, make some of that "dirt" pudding for dessert!
Hey, where do u get dry ice anyway girls???? I'm sure my friend would want some for her party.

Re: Pls post HALLOWEEN costume and party ideas!
The funniest costume I ever saw on a guy just a plain white t-shirt with pictures of models cut out of magazines and stuck randomly all over the shirt. He said he was a chick magnet.
I love halloween parties.
