Marriage Licenses

I am woundering if in NY do you have to have a blood test? And how long before the wedding should I get it. My wedding is july16 2000. Thanks MIsty

I also called their toll-free number just to make voice contact. You can also ask for a free sample and they'll send you about 3 types of labels...I would recommend them to anyone!

Good luck....(we chose the daisy themed label -- I think we were both looking for daisy things, right? They look awesome on a yellowish bottle...)

You no longer need a blood test in New York. You must have your marriage license for at least 24 hours before you get married though so it is best to get it at least a week before you are planning to get married. Good luck!!!

I like the idea of a goodie bag for the kids. There will only be a few small kids from our immediate families but that's a good idea...sometimes they can play for hours with simple (and new) stuff

My hall is charging me 15% gratuity plus a $150 fee for the maitre'd. Do you think I still have to tip him? $150 doesn't seem like a lot. Maybe they just do that so the maitre'd doesn't get stiffed?

Misty,

You don't need a blood test!!! A marriage license is good good for 60 days, but you have to have it for at least 24 hours - so yo can't get it the day before.

Marriage Licenses

I got mine in April around the 20th, so it's good until June 20th. No blood test required.

to which i replied, well this time we will because not everyone knows each other or has been in a bridal party of an interfaith ceremony. SO they need to know the structure. we will go through all the paces, then go have dinner and we will give them their presents. I felt like saying' AND you ARE TRADITIONALLY THE ONES TO PAY FOR IT'. But I couldn't. they have been so good to us in other ways. WHEW! sorry to dump but there is the whole ugly story. I guess we will figure it out later. I will let the bridal party pass the word along to the overnight guests. I am not too close with aunts/uncles/cousins...but in our talks, I have said how much planning this is taking, we have to be creative with our planning since we are paying for it all ourselves, etc. but none of them have called to ask me _on their own_ how are you doing? how are the plans. so, what can I do? look forward to my wedding day..and the days after having my own little fam. the heck with them all.

where do you get the marriage license? Thanks for the info.

Maybe we will schedule for hot and humid August and hope that we don't show up looking like drowned rats. Do let me know how it goes and good luck!

Marriage Licenses

we got ours at the Town Clerk's office in Hempstead. I think you can get them at either the Town Clerk's office or the County Clerk's office.

Best Wishes, I hope everything works out the way you planned. Have a wonderful time at your wedding and especially the honeymoon!! When you get back, let us know how everything went!!

Smithtown Town Hall. You can obtain a license in any New York Town Hall in any town.

I just wanted to give you a heads up. My cousin used David for her wedding last month and I think she wishes that she had been more vocal and forceful about what she wanted/expected. She had given him a list of pictures that she wanted and she says that he didn't take any of them. Plus he had them taking photos for at least half of the reception. But, I think at least some of the blame is my cousin and her husband's because they didn't speak up and tell him what pics she wanted and that she wasn't going to miss her whole reception. I'm sure the end result will be lovely. I'm also using Glenmar next month and have already called them to reiterate exactly what I want--just wanted to give you the heads up so you can do the same.

Good luck to you. Deirdre

You can go to the Court House in Kew Gardens. The same rules apply no matter where you go. There is a 24hr waiting period and it is good for 60 days.

WHEW!! another big item off my list!

Thanks

FYI- One of the officiants I met with warned us to not go to the Kew Gardens Court House for the license. He said it's a nightmare & the people are rude. He suggested doing it on the Island. Thought I'd pass it along. Wouldn't want to equate getting my marriage license with a DMV experience! :)

Thanks for the advice. I hate going to the DMV and I definitely don't want to go through that for my marriage certificates!!!

Depends what you're getting. We only interviewed two dj's, one was oddessy (We went with Spin Around Sound- they have a web site w/ rates). The prices for DJ's start at around $1000 + depending on what you get. The more lights & equipment, the more they charge. There are also dj's that work other jobs during the week and DJ on the weekends, they tend to be less expensive- maybe $800, but htey book quickly. Post and ask for names. You'll get a good selection. Check out Spin Around Sound,

I read somewhere that it's $5.00 less out on the Island too. Hey, it's not much, but every penny counts!

Kew Gardens - Not bad at all!

We went down for our license and were in and out in less than 30 minutes. Contrary to what you were told, we were greeted by a helpful worker as soon as we walked in. She gave us our papers and checked on us a few times to make sure we were okay.

It was actually kind of neat - there were people down there waiting to be married, all dressed up in gowns and tuxes. Set the mood...

There is a municipal parking lot right behind the building for easy parking.
