What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

People tell me that when you are like 8 months along, strangers will approach you and rub your belly.

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

My brother's ex-MIL (I'm still friends with my ex-SIL) said that if I name my daughter Ryan, that she would grow up to be a lesbian.

I was out for a week from work while I was preggo because of severly swollen ankles and when I returned, a guy I work with came over and said 'Congratulations, I didn't realize you had the baby' - I was 7 1/2 months preggo still.

I'm sure there's alot more but those two things come to mind right away. No one really tried to rub my belly believe it or not.

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

I would have backhanded someone if they came up to me and rubbed my belly!!!! Yes, there is a baby in there but it is STILL my body!

My most annoying thing was FSIL would come up to me and put her hand on my belly and sit there and rub it for like 5 minutes at a time. Her FH finally had to tell her to stop because it was annoying me. Shes just a jacka$$

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

people rub my belly constantly!!! strangers! I think it's nice...the more love the better!

My mom told me that if I named a boy Roman he would be like the devil in Rosemary's Baby.

And that she won't call a baby Lola because she doesn't condone stripping. Lovely.

My husband calls me a baby vessel. (which I don't mind...sometimes he says sexy baby vessel and that makes it ok!)

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

My husband talks about me all the time of course and so the people he works with know that I am pregnant. One girl he works with told him that while she was pregnant with her baby, she wanted sex all the time! Why the hell would you tell someone that?

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

So many people made comments about my choice of name. When we were in the OBGYN's office one of the women who work there asked his name and when I said 'Damien' she was like Oh, I guess I'll get used to it. Hello I don't even know you why the heck would I care what you think I got the belly rubs too, and one woman asked me if I was carrying twins. I mean I wasn't that huge.

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

A woman in the nail salon overheard me tell the manicurist my due date (I was in my 7th month) and YELLS across the salon 'Oh my God, are you kidding? You are just huge!' I was practically in tears when I said 'Actually, I'm having twins' and she YELLS 'Oh well thank God because you look like you're going to fall over!' I cried all the way home, so much for my relaxing manicure.

A waitress asked me about my pregnancy and when I said it was twins, she says 'So what exactly, was wrong with you?'

And if I had a nickel for every person that said 'oh, oh, double trouble' or 'you'll never sleep' or 'better you than me', I'd be rich. My answer -- better me is right!

And my SIL kept rubbing my stomach EACH and EVERY time I saw her -- finally, I rubbed back -- and she never did it again.

People think that pregnant women are fair game for whatever comment they choose.

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

Oooohhhh - the idea of pregnant ladies being fair game for people to touch reminded me - BEGINNING OF RANT - How much I hate when people get in the baby's face. What the 'personal space' rule doesnt apply to babies??? I can't stand that - back off when it comes to my child! I know most everyone loves babies but why do some people have to be right in their faces? Touching him and pawing him. Once when he was going through the everything in his mouth stage when he was smaller, someone I am acquainted wanted to see the baby and she was was letting him put her finger in his mouth. I really told her off. END OF RANT

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

OMG SOME stories you guys have !!!

Kaycee- that was so mean of that lady at the nail salon to say that! and YOU GO GIRL with the answer 'better me'. Its twice the blessings baby!!

Liz-OMG that drives me NUTS when people feel they can touch and smother your child!
UGH and the 'other peoples fingers' in their mouths, rarely happens (I try to 'catch it'before it happens but people are RIDICULOUS!!) Thats disgusting and they should know better!

I have a funny one. I was about 34 weeks (HUGE) and someone left a note on my car! ONe of those 'Youre hot, call me'. JOhn thought I made it up (as he crumbled up the note and threw it out as soon as possible
I was w my MIL, and she couldnt stop laughing. I told her maybe the note was for her, shes kinda cute

Re: What shocking things did people do or say while you were pregnant?

A lot of people I run into at the hospital say 'I didn't even know you got married.' Which is not a huge deal because we only got married like 6 mos ago but I have plenty of friends who weren't married when they were pg, and some of our LIW moms weren't married when they were pg. It just annoys me that people make assumptions that one goes with the other. One time I would just love to say 'I'm not married' just to teach them a lesson about being presumptious.
