Open Floor Plan Decorating Question

My DH and I will be moving into our new home soon - so I am, of course, starting to get the decorating juices rolling.

Our Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen are all open to each other (which I love). The paint in all three rooms is a cheery yellow.

My question is - would it be ok to have a Red/Burgundy color scheme in the living room and then the dining room and kitchen with green accents? Or should all three rooms have the same color accents?

I want the rooms to flow - but I don't want it to be too boring.

Thanks!

Re: Open Floor Plan Decorating Question

Are you talking about furnishings or wall color?

You can definately coordinate/mix colors with your furnishings. I have seen open floor plan rooms tied together with window treatments and coordinating fabric for acents around the rooms. I love that look.

Its tricky to use different wall colors in an open floor plan unless you have a wall that can be done in an accent color or paint effect.

Re: Open Floor Plan Decorating Question

i dont feel they necessarily have to match, but should compliment each other well. ie - i wouldnt go with a red walls in one room and then kelly green in another. maybe make one room semi-neutral and add color with accents and paint the walls of your favorite or largest room? everything else you can add color with decor.
