Calling all knitters....
Just wondering who else knits? On the NWR list awhile back several knitters or wanna-be knitters were out there.So...
How long have you been knitting and what do you like to knit and what are your favorite techniques?
Any favorite sources for yarns or favorite fibers types?
Do you belong to any local knitting guilds or groups?
Me: I learned the basics as a child and made a few endless scarves. Picked up a book, needles and yarn at a garage sale about 10 years ago and made my first sweater. I like to knit lace shawls, sweaters, socks. I'm learning to do my own designs and write patters. Love to learn new techniques.
Favorite sources - haven't shopped locally since I moved to LI. Used to go to some nice shops in Boston. Favorite place to shop is the Marketplace at the Knitter's Magazine 'Stitches East' events. My stash of yarn is out of control anyway - need to knit up some of that first.
Use to belong to Big Apple Knitters Guild - planning to re-join - had to cancel plans to go to the meeting tomorrow because my new dining room furniture is being deliver! There's always next month! I'd be interested in getting a group together to meet in Western Suffolk, south shore area - anyone else?

ME TOO!!!!Knitters Unite!
I started knitting a couple of years ago. I only learned the basics at the time, and made a million blankets and scarves...then I made a few sweaters that were mostly busts, but worth the try. I am now able to cable knit which is neat. I am in the process of baby sweater and hat set for my friend's baby due in February.
I also crochet up a storm. BIG on granny squares! And am making a poncho for myself for the Winter.

Re: Calling all knitters....
I just 'knit' no pearl...And I have been working on a scarf forever. I enjoy doing it a lot but don't make the time often enough.I would LOVE to know how to make a baby sweater but I have to try and finish my scarf first.....
I cannot learn from books. I need someone in front of me to show me how to do it.

Re: Calling all knitters....
Michele...Michaels always has beginning knitting courses...and if you know how to knit...purl is just bringing the needle from the back to the front (instead of knitting from front to back)
here is a good link that has the basic steps on video
to do a baby sweater, you will have to learn the abbreviations (then its easier to look at a book and figure things out as well)...but I'm sure there would be one that would involve pretty basic stitches...

Michelle I am making an all knit baby sweater for my friend! It could NOT be easier. It's like a little box cardigan and a hat. The hat is all knit as well. I can definitely walk you through it!

jenny- Can I just knit to do it
I just sit and knit, knit, knit. I never understood the other steps. I wish you and Erica lived closer and we could have a knitting night. I would serve tea and cookies

Re: Calling all knitters....
My Nanny taught me how to knit when I was about 8 years old. I made scarves, blankets & I even made myself a sweater & a matching one for my doll with a lot of help from her!I haven't tried it since I was a kid, but I would like to try again. I don't have any suppiles though so I'd have to get some.
