New Years Eve Wedding???

HI,

I was just wondering what everyone thinks of a new years eve wedding? Has anyone ever been to one? I was planning on getting married next year on new years eve...just wondering what cool ideas or tips you can give. Thanks

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

I guess you wedding would be EXTRA special with the little holiday perk included! I have no idea how rates would be that day or evening though.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

We thought about it & decided against it for a couple of reasons:
1- I, and many many of my friends are bartenders or bouncers & it is nearly impossible for them to get off NYE,
2- my out of town guests would have gotten clobbered with airfaire coming into NY during that time.
3- the HM for a NYE wedding is almost 2x as much as the week after (when we are actually getting married).
4- the propensity for my friends to drink is greater on NYE & need not be displayed at my wedding (they are very very hard core drinkers on NYE!)

However, if none of these apply to you, then I think it is a really good idea. Even now I still kick myself in the a$$ a little bit & think I should have just done it anyway...

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

My friends worked at catering halls on NYE while they were in college, and their past experience, the guests usually bust out early, and are not really into the wedding mode. I always wanted to get married on NYE, always thought it would be cool to be with family, great way to ring in the new year, but after the horror stories, I decided against it. You definately get charged more (the staff won't work unless they get more) Usually, the halls post a note saying that if the staff calls in sick, etc. they are fired, thats how desperate they get. So they have to hire outside help. Plus NYE, worst time to be driving with all the idiots on the road. Its completely up to you! And...sometimes if the hall has more than one room, its open to the public, and you know how people get when they are drunk. Just keep it in mind. It's costs a whole hell of a lot more, and you may regret it. Just weigh it out.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

Me too. There's nothing better than being around family that you otherwise wouldnt see on the holiday. I thought it was a great idea. But after all the stuff my friends told me, I decided against it.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

I think that sounds great. My mom went to one on the Millenium (sp) and she still talks about it. As a matter of fact she found out that they actually got a better price for doing it that night.

It sounds like lots of fun, but take the proper precautious, so it can be safe as well.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

Sounds awesome.. but I think after reading the other posts... it's sounds as that a lot needs to be taken into consideration before making that decision.

I assume you would be making your vows right at midnight.. (i know it sounds obvious of me... lol....) That is a great way to begin the year.. just take everything into consideration.

Re: New Years Eve Wedding???

If they were smart they would get married right before midnight. So that they could file a joint tax return for the previous year and use it to their advantage.
