Re: How do you know you are getting good fake
i for one am no longer in a position to be buying the hottest new REAL bags anymore since we bought the house.. so learned the trick of the trade... knockoffs. my sister in law buys them real, and i compare mine to hers. i got a great LV barrel bag (not sure of THE collector name) down on canal st. it has the identical lock, suede on the inside, engraved marking on the inside, came with the dustbag, all the logos match up in the very same spots, zippers are engraved, and so are the side buckles. works for me! my house is more important right now so if it means $700 towards new windows or $700 towards a real bag... i'll opt for the investment!

Re: How do you know you are getting good fake
So if the fakes have all the same things are the real thing, then how to you know that it is real? Does the ID number have to be entered into a database?I'm a Coach and D&B fan myself and for them I head to the outlets because I don't like the quality of the leather on the fakes.

I always get mine down on Canal too, I just got a nice suede Coach....the booth was on the corner of Canal and Broadway, when you come out of the N/R train....I also found this site recently that sells fake LVs - they look pretty decent.

Re: How do you know you are getting good fake
Im a Dooney & Burke gal myself.I usually buy only one real bag every so often but they are no where near $700. Also I normally only buy when I go to their tent sale in CT. Usually in the winter every few years. I always guy the same colors so my stuff always matches. Black/Dark Brown.
I used to have knockoffs when I was younger. For D&B, knockoffs just don't last as long as the real 'all weather leather'. Once I bought my first real one, I was hooked.
I abuse the heck out of my purses.. Im not a real 'purse' type. It's usually stuffed into my backpack and tossed around. D&B (legit) can hold up to that. Fakes fall apart. Fake D&B usually don't have the registry number on the lable that is sewn on in the interior. Assuming there's a lable at all. The only thing I have that didn't have a lable was my checkbook, but the registry number was already stamped on the card to register it when I bought it.
I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on my purses. At least not every few months or every year.

Re: How do you know you are getting good fake
Hrm.. reading my own post I'm ashamed to say I wasn't quite being truthful. I spent $200 for the purse, $100 for the checkbook and $150 for the wallet. So that's about $450 but that was over the past decade I'd guess. I have 3 purses. None cost over $300.Then again, I don't like big bags, I end up stuffing them with crap I don't need. I just need something big enough to hold my wallet, my keys, my checkbook, my business card holder, my hairbrush and maybe a compact & lipstick.

Re: How do you know you are getting good fake
The way you can tell the LV's are fake is my the color of the strap!!!Its not usually as light as the ones they sell on Canal and for a good copy you will pay more.
See with the real LV as it ages the strap gets worn and darker brown!
