Do you think its ok to buy something for a baby shower.........
.....at a different store than someone registered at? The store the girl registered at is out of the way so I was thinking of just going to a major department store and buying some cute outfits. What do you think?

Re: Do you think its ok to buy something for a baby shower.........
I ask because I always shop by the registry. For my bridal shower, a few people didn't shop where we registered and they bought stuff we already had. Then I had to run to all these different stores to return them. But for the baby shower, I figured its different because I can pick up little outfits the baby can definately use.

STICK TO THE REGISTRY! Sorry JMO, that's what she wants and needs and that's where she can return or exchange things.
It seems like you answered your own question..it's a pain in the butt when you have to go somewhere different, and besides don't you want to get her something she wants? And a baby shower is not different, she may not like the outfits you buy her. I was so grateful for all the outfits people bought me, but if it wasn't from BRU and I didn't like them, it was a waste and I want to use everyone's gift.

Re: Do you think its ok to buy something for a baby shower.........
I think you can stray from a registery but just include a gift reciept or purchase something that is unique. For instance- Claud made me a Nursing basket which I love. I didn't register for nursing pads and it is great that she got them for me. I also got a basket full of 'stuff' that I will need and it had books and some toys in it too. I didn't register for that stuff, but I really love it.
Some people also gave me beautiful handmade blankets
Do not buy something that is ON the actual registery at another store though because that just gives the girl doubles.
Oh, and my SIL gave me a Tiffany silver spoon. I didn't register at Tiffany but I still love it.

Re: Do you think its ok to buy something for a baby shower.........
I think it is okay to vere off the registry - IF you do it for a purpose. For instance, like Michele mentioned, I made her a huge basket full of nursing supplies...I came up with the idea b/c I wanted to do something that would give her a great start to what can sometimes be a difficult task for a new Mom.
I purchased her Boppy Pillow from her actual registry, and then built the rest of the contents around that...a bottle of formula (just in case
), bottles, binkies, nursing pads, soothies, hot/cold nursing paks, nursing shawl for privacy, Boppy Pillow cover, Lansinoh (nursing cream), cocoa butter products, and tons of other stuff that I know Michele is going to need/use. Most of that stuff was not on Michele's registry, but I learned from my own BFing experiences how useful that stuff was. The idea behind my gift was to give her some support in her efforts to become a BFing success!
I feel close enough to Michele to make a gift out of stuff that is on the more personal/private side.
ETA - Sue, just make sure you include a gift receipt!

I remember the diaper cakes you made. They were gorgeous. But I agree that is something you make for someone you are very close with. I don't know this girl well so I will just pick up something off her registry.

I think those basket full of goodies are actually the best presents! It shows that the person really took the time to shop for you and make you something special.

Those baskets are great. If it was someone I was close with, I would definately make up a basket. I don't know this girl well. I only met her once.

I think it's fine to get a couple of outfits from a regular store, not her registry. I would include a gift receipt and pick a store like macys or childrens place that's easy for the mother to get to.Welcome New Vendors
