Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

My step sister got married on Friday at the reception hall (Central Valley Inn, Central Valley, NY) and she didn't have a rehearsal. We didn't know which way to walk, we didn't know where to stand and it was very obvious to the rest of the guests. It had the entire bridal party hysterically laughing up on the alter. After the ceremony, her new husband said, 'That was horrible, that was the most disorganized thing I have ever seen.' I thought she was going to cry. (But it looked like something you would see on TV. Picture 8 guys and 8 girls switching places on teh alter just trying to recover their partners...)

JMO~After this experience, if you have the option of having a rehearsal at the hall, take it. I never thought that you really needed one until experiencing the wedding this past Friday.

we are having a rehearsal just for that reason. even if it is not at the hall, it will still be good to practice who walks when etc!

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

My hall wouldn't let us have one there without having the actual RD there, so like you said, the cermony was so disorganized and the maitre d didn't even know how to line us up, he was originally goign to send us out in the wrong order. Thank goodness one of my BM's has been in 8 million weddings and corrected him or it would have been a real disaster!

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

We are having a rehersal for that reason. I was in a wedding and although my friend had a nice dinner for us we never rehearsed. So the day of the wedding the officiant and his wife who married them were like, no need to worry just follow your names on the floor. Easy enough but I was the first person to go and stood where my name was. well by the time the MOH got there that is when we noticed there was a problem. I was standing in her spot. So it kind of looked like I was the MOH. It was too late to change. Then when we were walking back up we had to do the reverse order so we ended up with the right people.

We're also getting married at the hall where our reception is. We are also having a rehearsal just so the BP knows where to be standing and when to walk.

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

We're not having a rehearsal because it's against Judaism to have one. I'll go over it with my bridesmaids and such - most of them have theater experience.

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

From what I've heard, ceremonies at the hall get rehearsed THAT MORNING! Nuh-uh...sorry...I'm not doing that. If they don't allow me to do a rehearsal the day before or a few days before, we will rehearse elsewhere so that way we at least have a clue as to what to do. I'm going to be up early enough that day, I don't need to run into my FH before the ceremony with my veil on and such....

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

I just don't know.

I want to rehearse there in the morning..but we're getting married at 11:30am

You figure folks may around around at latest 11am.

I need to start getting prepared at least by 10:30 to be on the safe side (im getting dressed there)

So that means a dry run around 9am or so. I wouldnt mind, but I have a feeling my nerves will snap.

I'll probably walk it through my bridal party who goes where and when (since we're still not sure if we're going inside or outside). I have a very small bridal party 3 girls, 2 boys and I think the boys may be lined up at front before we walk in. So that means getting three ladies to walk up, how hard can that be?

Most likely I'll have my step monster handle making sure people start walking when they're supposed to. She's good at pushing people around and besides after 10mins with her you're willing to walking through the depths of fire to find release, a simple walk towards an alter will be a breeze by comparison.

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

I am Jewish, and the rabbi that is marrying us, who is Conservative is letting us have a rehearsal the day of the wedding. A very quick run thru.It is not customary to Judiasm to have an actual rehearsal dinner, etc. the night before.

Re: Girls who are getting married at the hall, are you having a rehearsal?

We got married at the hall and didn't have a rehearsal. If you have a good maitre d....you shouldn't need one. Ours organized the bridal party 5 minutes before the ceremony and it was smooth sailing (we had a large bridal party too). Our clergy rehearsed together on the phone (interfaith service) and it went off without a hitch.

Talk to your banquet manager and ask how the no-rehearsal thing is handled. Ask him when/how everyone is lined up and who handles it...then talk to that person.

We have a rehersal before the ceremony. I think it is the afternoon of the wedding. We will probably have one before that at a different location.

We are having the rehearsal dinner for the bridal party and families. We can give everyone their gifts then and go thru how everything is to be done.

I am getting married at the hall and we are rehearsing on Thursday night for my Saturday afternoon wedding. I think it will help everyone learn where they walk and everything.
