Anyone know of any teaching jobs on Long Island?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know if anyone on here knows of any LI districts that are possibly hiring elementary teachers for the 2005-2006 school year.

I am currently a second grade teacher for the NYC Dept of Ed. in Brooklyn. What a lovely and scenic drive every morning

I am looking to get a job out here. Just wondering if anyone had an info.

I'm right there with you. I'm currently teaching Pre-K in a catholic school (taught 2nd for 2 years), but just finished up my Masters (Early Childhood Ed) and my cert is pending.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi girls.

Every week Dowling College posts a compilation of the teacher job ads that were posted in Sunday's paper... i found this to help me SO much during my job search last year!!

and the pdf, called 'current education job openings' is usually located under the 'Announcements' heading toward the bottom. It has the date updated. I usually check it once a week on Tuesdays... some weeks it takes them longer to post then others.

I would also keep checking individual school district web sites

wish I could help more, but FH needs help too!!!

He's a recent elementary ed grad and got a permanent sub job right out of college at an unnamed school district in nassau, almost queens. We're in Smithtown, so it's a huge commute for him.

He was offered a full time position for Sept, and brought home the contract to look over yesterday. They want to hire him on a non-tenure track! He went to the district office today and was told that the s.d. is trying to move away from the idea of tenure --- isn't that job security?!?!?
Needless to say, he declined the offer and is going to start looking for a job again. I feel so horrible for him! He was so excited that he had a job, now it's gone. Poor guy

is that legal for a sd to move away from the idea of tenure?? Once you are there 3 years... by law you are supposed to either receive or be denied tenure!

Wow this is a public school? I didn't think they could legally do that. If I remember correctly Patchogue-Medford and East Islip were sued for that around '97. He might have wanted to keep the position and then still shop around for another position.

In my district Feb is when the district requires retirement letters to be sent in by. So that is when we start to see postings.

I can't stand the city much longer!!!!

I can't believe that a SD is moving away from tenure track. I am not sure who you could ask about that maybe call the NYS Dept of Ed? Maybe they would know.

oh it's legal --- when it's in the contract BEFORE it is signed.

I'm going secondary english, but I'm not jobhunting until I'm done w/ my masters --- FH is trying to work and get masters at the same time.

I have a good job now that pays decently and best of all, the hrs are flexible so that when I need time off for finals and midterms or papers, it's not impossible. But I'll be faced with this in a yr or so!

I went through the process of looking for a guidance counseling job a few years ago for 2 years. I know its a bit different than looking for a teaching job because there are less of them available.

I did find though that the process they put you through is so grueling, likely because its so competitive with the tough interviewing process and all. There are so many candidates and not enough jobs (in many teaching positions).

I also found there were problems with politics in various school districts (not to be named here though). It was tough to get a job if you did not know a soul of importance in that district or at least another one.

I dont' want to discourage anyone. I certainly want you all to have a better experience than me. I don't believe anyone should have to go through that tough interview experience just because the districts feel these candidates are a dime a dozen.
Hopefully more people will retire or we will get more politicians who see the importance of great teachers in schools.
