Back from looking at the apt. in Wantagh
And let me tell you, the NERVE some people have, I mean the nerve!!!!!!!This apartment was literally someone's GARAGE
converted into an apartment, and I complaing that my 2 bedroom is too small? You had to see this DUMP!
And to think they want to charge what they do
And get this, there were other people there looking at it, and filling out applications!?!
I swear, my bathroom now, is bigger than the kitchen AND bathroom there combined! Two people could NEVER fit in that kitchen!
The horror!
I think we may just wait a bit more for our house!
These apartments on the side of people's homes in LI, is like living in a box. I don't know how people do it!
Me & John were trying soooo hard to keep a straight face when we walked in, and forget it, when we left, we were hysterical all night, even at dinner we were cracking up in the restaurant!

Jenn, I know exactly what you are saying. My FH and I have been looking at apartments for the last few weeks and the more expensive they are, the worse they are!I think people really have nerve as you said. The thing that I find funny is, these awful apartments are taken within a day or two. I guess people are very desperate for apartments these days.

Re: Back from looking at the apt. in Wantagh
Brians cousin rented an apartment here in Queens that was probably worse. It was in the basement and watch out for low ceilings. Jenn you would literally bump your head. I think I had just enough clearance. The kitchen and living room were combined, then a tiny tiny bathroom and a tiny tiny bedroom. All with one closet. The amount was more then what we are paying for our good size one bedroom. She only lived their for 3 months. (the owner sold the house)
Dont worry, something will come up. I understand what you mean about wanting to get out of Queens. Dont worry.

My BIL lives in Massapequa Park and it is great! We are looking for a house on a canal though. Either they are too expensive or in the wrong school district.

Re: Back from looking at the apt. in Wantagh
I hear you Jenn! David and I looked at 50 apartments before we found ours. No joke! They were all so gross and small. What they wanted us to pay for something smaller than my bedroom at home was ridiculous! I wasn't asking for much, but I wanted a bathroom where I wasn't grossed out to take a shower in!We live in a basement 2-bedroom apartment (with normal ceilings!
) in Massapequa Park and couldn't be happier. The rent is great too.

Re: Back from looking at the apt. in Wantagh
Ugh! I can picture it well. I've been there - with apartments and houses! And of course I love the adjectives they use to describe it in their ads. LOL Yes, people have nerve but what about those people who were eagerly filling out applications? Either desparate for a place to live or...? they don't care about a nice home environment like some of us do. Hang in there. How far away from a home purchase are you? Unless your apt. is unbearable or the increase is insane, it may not be worth all the uprooting (packing, unpacking, mail changes, having to update all your personal info everywhere, etc. etc.). If it's less than 2 years, I'd stay put.

I know what you're going through! I have moved 7 times since I came home from college, which was in 1998. Apartment hunting is the WORST... One of the best realtors I've found is in Massapequa. Their website is www.nyonlinerealty.com and they post all of their listings online. Definitely check them out.Good luck!!
