Bath Fitter

Anyone ever use one of those bath refacing systems? I'm trying to decide if we should do it. Thanks!

I didn't use them -- but I did have the guy over to my house for the sales pitch.

It is WAAAY expensive. The bath in my BR is about 5x4 feet. It only has a shower stall - no tub. He wanted 5K to install the bathfitter thing over the existing shower. I was like

I could retile it myself for 1/4 of that! It's just a pain in the you know what - cause there is no time in my life !!

Thanks for the information. I had no idea it cost that much. I would love to retile but I have no patience or time for that either.

I didn't pay for it, but my landlord did this to our bathroom/hower/tub thingy & it is noticeably narrower than a standard tub. It is also pretty hard to keep clean. I don't know what material he chose, but it is always grimy

Definitley don't want a narrow, grimy tub. Do you know what company he used?

I had them come to my co-op and they gave me a price of 4,000 dollars! Well, out the door he went. We tiled the whole bathroom in Italian marble and it was cheaper.

I looked into them also last year when water got behind my tiled walls. Well, they told me they could do this thing over it and it cost an arm and a leg. I got my contratcotr in and he told me I was lucky I did not do this, since there was a leak behind the wall, it would have been covered up and then it would have made a mess behind the wall, and it would have rotted. It cost me a lot less to retile and use wonder board behind the wall then doing this thing that would have cost a lot of $$ and would have created rot behind it. It was an inconvience for a few days but it was worth it to get it retiled.

We used Bathfitters in our old house and it was a lot of money, but well worth it in the end. The tub / shower did not get noticeably smaller as mentioned in some responses here, the product is VERY high quality and resists mildew and soap scum build up. Previously, we discovered water issues and thought at first of fixing and repairing ourselves - even went to HD and bought all the stuff to do the job. BUT, a friend came by and took a look and said we had a real issue with water BEHIND the tiles. and the grout was cracked in a number of places.
Reluctantly we went with bathfitter, but what a pleasure it was to take a shower / bath after the project was completed!!! Also, we got to customize location and number of shelves, soap holders, etc.

I am not sure, he didn't stipulate it in the lease, it just said new fitted shower unit.

There is something about the material I didn't like....it is almost as if it is porous. I find it very hard to clean, but maybe it is just the type of unit he chose...I am sure that there are better quality choices.

Thanks for all your input everyone. We have a guy coming tomorrow for an estimate. I guess I will wait to see what the quote is. I am still so undecided.
