Beach theme Centerpieces

Hey ladies, anyone have any ideas on a beach theme centerpiece? My FH, MOH and my Mom want to make them ourselves. We were thinking like a medium sized vase with a wide mouth - inside the vase we would put sand and shells and maybe on the top have a floating lillie or some other beachy flower. What do you think? I would love to hear your ideas!!!

Thanks!!!

Re: Beach theme Centerpieces

I personally have no ideas on this, but I did a search for you and this is what I found online:
----------------------------------------------------

Beach Theme Wedding Centerpieces

Decorate your tables with some fun-loving beach-themed centerpieces. Each centerpiece is easy to put together, so anyone can do them.

Buy some children's pail and shovel sets. Use these as your centerpieces. You can fill them with fresh fruit or candies (lifesavers would be perfect). You could also fill them with sand and place several sea shells placed on top.

Buy large, pillar candles with sea shells embedded in the wax. Set the candles in a low, flat dish that contains a bed of sand.

Fill clear glass bowls with colored water. Layer the bottom with sea shells and 'starfish' (fake of course). Float a candle on the top.

Another bowl idea. Fill with water and tint it blue with food coloring. Buy some of those fake tropical fish you see in novelty stores. Float them in the water.

Last idea with the bowls :) Place colored sand in the bottom of the bowl (available at craft stores). Fill with water. Tint it a light blue if desired. Place a 'castle' on the bottom of the bowl (you can find items such as this at any pet store that sells fish). Add a bit of fake seaweed for affect.

See if you can track down some lighthouses to use as centerpieces. Check out your local hobby store.

Make seashell candles. Use large seashells and fill with melted beeswax. Insert a wick in the center and let set.

Create colored sand bottles. Get some unique shaped bottles and pour colored sand into them. You can make some very interesting designs using different colors of sand (which is available at craft stores). Insert a taper candle into the top of the bottle.

Re: Beach theme Centerpieces

hey! We are making ours and did a practice one the other day. We got little clear vases with a scalloped top from Michaels for $1 and are putting shells, sand, and prolly a tea light in it, we'll see and we're putting in a circle with a large candle in the middle depending on your colors. Around the top of the little vases we are putting that rope type material (kinda like hemp) with a little starfish where the two sides come together... We're going to be putting it on a mirror, but I haven't found those yet!

Just to let you know, we tried doing this at my FSIL's wedding couple of weeks ago. We had put sand in the bottom with some shells and then put roses coming outta the top but once we put water in, it was just a cloudy mess. It depends what kinda sand you get. We learned this two hours before the church was starting, so if you decide to do this make sure you try it first before the actual day of the wedding!

Re: Beach theme Centerpieces

I was hoping to, but seems I have run into a MAJOR problem. The place we wanted turns out that we don't live in the park district it is in, so they won't rent it out unless we are. I have other options to look into though.

My ideas for on the beach ceromony??

candle lit isle to be done at dusk. You can get pots, normally for plants and put the long pillars in. Obviously spacing them far enough away from the seats as to not light anyone on fire, nor my dress!! I was almost tempted to try out the citronella candles. Some smell pretty good and it would help to keep the bugs at bay. And I want to put stepping stones in the sand for added effect. I am not the normal frilly girl, so the candles will be enough for me. Also outline the area of the ceremony with the hanging chinese lanterns. Just some ideas I am playing with.

FYI - if you decide to use colored pebbles in the centerpieces you rinse them first. Soak them in water for a day and then dry them in the oven on warm for a few hours. That should stop them from bleeding or causing the water to get cloudy.
I think I am going with regular sand and some pretty shells, coloring the water and putting some floating lilies and candles on the top. I haven't made the trip to Michaels yet though to try out some ideas.
Also I am going to get a big basket and a bunch of pink flip flops and bag them for the ladies. Who doesn't like flip flops in the summer???

Re: Beach theme Centerpieces

I was originally going to do a beach glass theme. I bought a bunch of these bottles, for real cheap, and I was going to just sporatically place a few white floers in some, and some candles in blue and clear votive cups.

I was also going to make these hurricanes...
