Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
I have a coworker on my team that comes in late every day. The time ranges from 15 - 30 minutes late. This week, there was one day were I got a bunch of last minute work dumped on my desk at 4:30 which means that I have to work til 5:30 - 6 when I usually leave at 5. Then yesterday, she was a half an hour late and I had to work about 4 hours extra. Keep in mind, I am a salaried employee so I don't get paid for any extra hours I work. Well, she packs up and heads out the door at 5 last night. I am getting so fed up because I have been getting some of her work because it gets done in a much more timely manner and I tend to get things done a lot more effienctly. The real problem is when it comes to negoiating salary and bonuses, she wants us to stick together and I don't because I think I deserve more.My problem is, do I say anything or just suck it up? Am I being the bi@$h here?

I would tell your boss...You are probably not the only who who notices and resents it.

First I would say something to her. At least give her the benefit of the doubt. It things dont change, then go above her head and straight to her boss. I hope things work out!!

i agree with divabride. you def should have a one-on-one talk with your colleague. let her know of this inconvience she's put you through and give her the chance to redeem herself. in your mind, put her on a couple of weeks or so probation - that's if she does turn a new leaf. but if she continues this bad habit then definitely express your concerns to your boss.hope she listens and clearly understands what she's putting you through. g' luck.

Re: Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
I did say something...I told her it was bothering me...This is the reply I got:
I wasn't too happy about the conversation when I left, that was apparently obvious. Jeff and Craig know I'm late and that I make up for it in other ways, and if and when they feel it's become a problem for them - they'll bring it up on their own. I just don't feel its the job of a co-worker to be pointing anything out. I know that we both have strong opinions in areas relating to this topic and others we touched on yesterday, but we'll just call this a difference of opinion and leave it at that.

if i were you id tell her- 'fine'. then, when it comes to salary, dont 'stick together' and if anything, lobby privately to your boss that you deserve a higher salary. i am sure he has noticed her and will and should reward you for your extra efforts. imo, if anyone is the b*tch, its her

I'm guessing that Jeff and Craig are the bosses? Wow, I wouldn't even know how to respond to that.

Re: Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
let your boss know immediately. let yoru boss know that you have talked to her abotu this problem and you got a negative feedback. hopefully your boss will take this matter to a better solution. one where everyone will be pleased with. your co-worker messed up! she should've taken this gesture as a way for her to haev a better relationship with you. i mean.. you two are suppose to work together. my hub's a boss and he's recieved complaints about co-workers.. it's his responsiblity to bring to rissened problem to the bad seed. the end result is always quickly resolved. if not, he fires them.i really hope this works out for you!

Re: Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
what a nasty response when you were actually being nice and not going over her head to start with. I would definitely tell your bosses and not 'stick together' during salary review time. That is not right.

well now I would just go to your boss and say something to them. Also I when her work gets put on you I would put it on her desk and when someone asks about it I would just say it was given to her not me to do. Then they will def see on their own

I don't think I would say anything immediately, but when I get handed more work, I would say that it seems unfair to be stuck at work when others come in late and leave at 5. I would also discuss this in any future evaluations or salary negotiations. When she asks why you aren't sticking together for that, you can simply say that you have a difference of opinion on what that means and just look out for yourself.

She could be lying and just trying to cover her a$$ by saying the bosses know about it. Technically it's a supervisor's job to notice chronic lateness problems, but maybe you should document her comings and goings and
show the bosses if it continues to be a problem. Also document the conversation you had with her and her response to you.
Or, you could go to the bosses and ask them straight out if they know about your co-workers lateness problems. Hopefully they'll be honest with you.
Good luck!!

Re: Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
Thanks ladies...I appreciate all your help. Technically, I am her superior but due to the bosses' management style, there is not clear 'pecking' order. Unfortunately, she feels that since she has been here longer, she has more say in things and disregards my position, so to say. I am going to handle it by questioning the over flow of work to me (mean while, we don't handle the same responsiblities) and see how they answer that. Thanks again!

Re: Coworker vent and a little advise needed, please
document, Document, DOCUMENTWrite down every day that she is late, every day that she leaves early. Document how your work load is effected each time that happens.
When you have a good amount documented, THEN go talk to your boss about her.
