engagment party favors?

do you guys think a candle in a votive holder are cheap favors for an engagement party? if so, what would be a more suitable favor?

No way. I did see a cute idea. Went to an engagement party and they filled a lovely basket with little potted african violets. At the end everyone took one.

I would love that favor!
We originally thought of doing something like that except we were going to use pillar candles about 3' high and place a wrap around it saying: Wanda and Carl* Engagement Party* April 18, 2003. I was going to wrap them in tulle and tied with a personalized ribbon. Along with the ribbon I would put jordan almonds somewheres. Eventually that idea was nixed.
