Hurricane Katrina-Poll

In her wake, there are people volunteering to house people in their homes. Question is, would you do it, keeping in mind that strangers would probably stay there for months?

Personally, I would do this, but I have not spoken to DH and I don't know how he feels about it. It's a very personal choice. Of course, there would have to be some written agreement about the time, money...etc..

Re: Hurricane Katrina-Poll

I know this is the 'wrong' answer, but no, I would not open my home to a complete stranger for months.

first, FH and I Live in a 1 bedroom, we barely have room for us. we're looking for a bigger place right after the wedding.

second, I would be too worried about my own safety. It's very selfish, I know.

Re: Hurricane Katrina-Poll

as selfish as this sounds...I would have to say NO. I have a 13 month old son who was born a micro preemie....his immune system still has alot of developing to do since he has scarring on his lungs from all the tubes and oxygen he received. I need to put my baby's health 1st. Comming into the winter season/cold season it would not be a wise thing to do.

Re: Hurricane Katrina-Poll

People, there is no need to feel bad about saying no. This is definitely not an easy choice and if you don't have the room or are afraid for your safety and your family, then your concerns are all valid.

Please don't beat yourself up. I was merely trying to see how you all felt about it. I am not judging and I would expect that none of us get judged.

Re: Hurricane Katrina-Poll

i thought about this yesterday. id do it for a certain period of time - but i would make sure that the people i am bringing itno my home were vetted thoroughly and i would give preference to people that i know obviosly..
i would not bring some random stranger into my house though. id never put my fh or myself or my neighbors in danger

I agree. We have a one bedroom, plus I have heard there might be disease spreading through those who are living in the cramped, unsanitary conditions. I wouldn't put DH or myself in danger by taking a stranger in.

My family members have offered their homes to our family living in the area. I would always open my home to family, but luckily other family members have larger homes to accomodate entire families.

Re: Hurricane Katrina-Poll

For someone I knew, yes. For a stranger, maybe. The problem is, DH might not be on board with that, so for the good of my marriage, I know the answer would be definitely no for a stranger, and maybe for family.
