Hyphenating Your New Last Name- What is the procedure?
Just wondering since I am planning to hyphenate my new last name with my old one is there a procedure for doing this?If so is it really hard to do? And what forms do you need to fill out?
TIA!

Re: Hyphenating Your New Last Name- What is the procedure?
I would think that it's probably the same as what the ladies who change their last names have...since you are changing your last name from 'Yourlastname' to 'Yourlastname-Hislastname.'I'm still trying to decide if I want to legally hyphenate my last name or just hyphenate it socially. I'm currently trying to convince FH to hyphenate also...but probably failing. I think we'll both eventually just keep our names and I may hyphenate socially (I really don't care, but I'm not sure what we would do with kids if we have them).

I just want to hyphenate the last names really for professional reasons. At work it would be much easier.I also saw online a name change kit for brides but not sure if it's worth buying.

go to the local social security office with your marriage certificate-not sure how much it is though now. very easy. bring license and ss card to dmv to change then change with insurance. Charge cards just take a phone call. It is time consuming to make all the changes but not difficult.

Re: Hyphenating Your New Last Name- What is the procedure?
I am 'Hyphenating' or a word I like better is Add on.It is soo easy. I have done nothing so far which is the best part. I am married already 3 months and change and I have NOT called my cc or my bank or changed my Passport or anything cause I can use both names NO PROBLEM.
The both legally work. Eventually I will send in my Marriage certificate but when I good and ready and oh ya used to the 'new last name'
it is really strange to be called something that I have never been called for almost 30 years.
Did you ever wish girls that they would have to give up their names to understand all that is involved? lol
