Idea how to shrink size of digital pics?

Can anyone tell me how to shrink the size of digital pics once they are already downloaded to the computer? The file sizes are so big and they are taking up all my memory on my classweb page.

what program do you use to edit your pics?

Are they jpegs?

They are jpegs, but 800 or 680. I use Photo Editing Software (it is called) but I have other choices too

My hubby says you should try to use Photoshop if you have it and save it for web, that is a feature which will save it as the best for viewing on the web. Let me know
