If you have 2 cats and one is really fat, how do you get him to lose weight?
We have them on diet food. One is really fat and one is skinny. I don't want to be too skimpy with the food because I'm afraid the other cat won't get to eat.

You make me laugh...I had
that problem with my kitties. one was lean, mine was alittle fatty...I had the cable guy tell me hoe looked like a football with legs
I was made....But he was right
You can try to cut back on what he eats, 2x per day. He cat lived to 14 years of age, the skinny died at 7, go figure???

I want to try to get this cat to lose weight. He is HUGE!! We call him cat-dog. I would like to help him lose some weight. I just don't want to deprive the skinny one in the process. I think the fat one eats food for comfort sometimes. When him and the other one fight,he sometimes runs to his food to eat.

regulate the amount of food you give the over wieght cat. my friend does that, but she has to watch them eat to make sure they don't each others food.

It's hard to see what each one eats because you just leave the food there and they eat when they want it. I will try to give them less food but I'm afraid the skinny one won't get any.

separate them - maybe make one eat in a different spot than the skinny one!Fatty and Skinny went to bed. Fatty rolled over and Skinny was dead!

Make sure you take the fat cat and put him away for a while when you feed the skinny cat. Give him an hour or so in a room with the door closed and then let him eat

Fat and skinny had a race up and down the pillow case. Fat came down and broke his face and then skinny won the race.Where do we get these sayings from?

The skinny one loves pounce whenever its fresh from the little container. The fat one won't touch it.If I put the pounce in the food bowl, skinny won't touch it.It has to be fresh. I could start putting a little of that in the bowl with a little dry food.

Re: If you have 2 cats and one is really fat, how do you get him to lose weight?
It sounds impossible... I have 3 cats and they all eat the same food. One of them is REALLY fat, the other is pudgy, and the third is the perfect weight. I can't imagine feeding them separately, unless I had a huge house and could stick them in a different room during feeding time! But then you couldn't leave a bowl of food out for them either... maybe your vet can give you better advice?

Just thought of a possibility. Underactive thyroid. One of my cats has an overactive thyroid and he lost a lot of weight and we took him to the vet, he took a blood test and prescribed meds. Since then he gained back a pound and a half (since October)

Re: If you have 2 cats and one is really fat, how do you get him to lose weight?
Monday morning, my fat cat jumped into bed with me and tried to curl up on my neck (he likes to be close to my face & hair) but I had to push him off, because his fat a$$ nearly suffocated me! And he always eats the other one's food, no matter how much you yell at him or spray water at him, he keeps going back to it.

I have two fatties(they are brother and sister) the vet put them on Iams less active weight loss - they are actually eating LESS than they are supposed to but they haven't lost any weight (they aren't gaining either)

Re: If you have 2 cats and one is really fat, how do you get him to lose weight?
I was told to feed them seperatly by my vet- b/c BOTH of my cats are fat.. they get to eat 3/4 of a cup of food a day- in the morning feed them 1/2 a cup.. BUT do it while you are getting ready for work- before you leave pick up whatever they don't eat- then do the same thing during the night- feed them in different locations and don't leave the food out-Of course- this didn't work for me b/c the male didn't eat- he was more concerned with what the female was doing....
