Interfaith Resources (repost BHB)

I just typed this as an FM, but I figured everyone might as well benefit.

The rabbi we may end up using is Rabbi Roger Ross from Loving Hearts Ceremonies. That may not help you though because he's in Manhattan. We have been having our major discussions about the wedding with the Rabbi at the temple we go to sometimes. They are in New Hyde Park, about 1/3 of the congregation is interfaith, so it's a good match for us. The rabbi supports interfaith marriage, but she doesn't as of now perform them. She's relatively new to the congregation, and she said she hasn't really had the time to think about it and set up rules, so that if she has to say no to the couple, she can give a concrete reason, etc. Also, she'd have every interfaith bride on LI calling her up! She gave me a few names, but they're all out of state, so that won't help either.
She actually recommended some of the books I already have which are

The New Jewish Wedding, by Anita Diamant

Celebrating Interfaith Marriages

Interfaith Wedding Ceremonies

That last one is published by Dovetail They have tons of resources for interfaith families.

These are some other books I have that were helpful, but were not specifically recommended by the rabbi.

The Interfaith Family Guidebook

Raising Your Jewish/Christian Child: How Interfaith Parents Can Give Children the Best of Both Their Heritages

Celebrating Our Differences: Living Two Faiths In One Marriage

There are a lot more out there, but I haven't read all of them, obviously. One I didn't like was The Guide to Jewish Interfaith Family Life and that's published by InterfaithFamily.com I didn't like their book, or their group, frankly because the entire book tells you that the only valid choice to raise the children Jewish and everything else is wrong/bad, etc. I didn't feel it was truly open to the needs to interfaith families. If you are planning to raise your children Jewish, that's a perfectly valid choice, but there are others.

I'm going to post this on BHB too, since I spent time on it, other brides might as well benefit. I hope this info helped. FM me anytime if you want to chat about Interfaith. i've been engaged for almost 2 years, and FH and I talked aboy married for a few years before that, we've been thinking, talking and obviously reading about interfaith for a long time.

Happy Thanksgiving!
