Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I wouldn't be surprised if my mom and sister were planning a shower for me, but I'm worried that if they are that it might seem tacky.

My baby shower for Scotty was 7 years ago, and also, this is my DH's first child, I'm just worried that people might think it's strange to have a 2nd...?

What do you guys think?

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I was invited to a baby shower for a friend who had a 8 year old at the time, and was having her second...

I did not think twice about it...so much has changed in 7 years...not only safety measures, but I am sure you have some different friends, and in your case, a different family. I do not see this as strange at all!!

GO to it and ENJOY!!!!

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

Nope I dont think its tacky, especially if you no longer have baby stuff. Plus like you said since its your 1st with your DH, you have different family and friends.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

My BF had one and her kids are only 2 years apart. She had a girl the first time and knew she was having a boy the second time, hence another shower. I think especially with the years difference between Scotty and this peanut there is NOTHING WRONG with it.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

We had a second 'shower' for my sister-in-law when she was pregnant with her 2nd child, but she really didn't need any major baby stuff being that her 1st daughter wasn't that much older. So we concentrated more on gifts for her and a few baby items! I don't think it is tacky at all.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I don't know why people think it's tacky (unless you were throwing it for yourself!) because isn't it a celebration of an impending birth and *showering* the parents with gifts & best wishes?

Why wouldn't someone want to give gifts simply because it's not the FIRST child ...

2nd? No not at all.

If it was your 3rd or 4th, etc then it would be a bit much. But no I say why not??!!

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I think since so much time has past and this is your DHs first child that it is fine.

However I don't think people should have showers for babies that are very close in age.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I threw a shower for my SIL when she was pregnant with her 4th child. She had twins. (they were 10 when she was pregnant for the 4th time) She was VERY sick with the twins and was in the hospital for the last month. She had another daughter (she was 8 when pregnant with her 4th) She never had a shower. So I took it upon myself to throw the shower. She had given most of her stuff away. NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEING TACKY. I hope they are planning one for u. Just like holly said so much has changed.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I think you it is fine as long as you do not give yourself one. So many years have passed that you are not expected to have anything from your first child. There are many big items you would need just because of safety changes. I hope you have one.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

It truly depends on the circumstances. I think you're in the clear since your child is older - safety standards have changed on some infant items you still have around and I'm sure there's many, many things you need. Plus, there's probably so many great new products on the market since your little guy was a baby.

However, I think my SIL was totally tacky with her 2nd shower, considering her son was less than two years old, she was having another boy AND she gave it herself. To me, it was nothing but a gift grab. This coming from a woman who threw herself an engagement party, bridal shower, 30th birthday party, you name it. By the time people got to the 2nd baby shower, they were pulling lint from their pockets from all the gift buying for her.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I think after 7 years it's ok...especially if you have a girl.....

when they are close, then I think it's tacky. My best friend had her 2nd child 7 months after her 1sts' first b-day...no shower..she didn't want one because she thought it to be tacky.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

I don't think it is tacky at all! Scotty is 7 and I'm sure you don't have any baby items left from him. Plus it is DH's first baby so I'm sure his family would love to go to a shower for you.

Re: Is it tacky to have a 2nd baby shower?

Thanks for all the opinions, ladies!

Considering that my ex and I split up when Scotty was an infant, I got rid of just about everything (having another child was the LAST thing on my mind at the time) so there is a ton of stuff that we need.

I'm not even sure that I'll be given a shower, and I would DEFINATELY never throw one for myself, just wanted to hear your point of view
