It's late and I need to vent...again (really long, sorry)
Things have been going so crazy lately. I just really need to vent. So many things have been going wrong and just when I feel as though I am starting to get a grip something else happens (from major to trivial). There has been a lot of turmoil in my household. My dad's currently in the hospital and my mom is very nervous as is I.
I hurt my back about a month ago and have been out on worker's comp. However my job was really nasty about it. They tried withholding my paycheck and flat out lied about it. They called me about a week into it kinda threatening my job status (which I called them back on). Then that week I got a letter from my boss stating that they need to discuss my continued employment there and all attempts to contact me have been ignored (another lie...they called me once and I called them right back). I have been calling my boss for the past 3 days because my doctor said there is a possiblity that if I am feeling better I can return. I have left messages every day and my boss does not pick up his phone or return the phone call...I am not sure if I am being paranoid but they do have caller ID and I am not sure if they are just avoiding me. I finally got in touch w/ the night supervisor tonight and she said she can not say for sure what's going on but she will talk to my boss tomorrow and get back to me. Ok, am I being canned here? If I am, then I feel as though they should tell me. Although I don't feel it is acceptable to fire someone for going out on injury. I dunno, is it me?
So now I am very uncertain of my employment status. What's worse is that I do not feel as though I am qualified to do anything. I feel as though I have gotten no skills from my current job...all I have is this stupid back pain! Plus no income
. Now, if borrowing from my savings to pay my bills isn't bad enough, it seems as though my wisdom tooth, that broke the surface a while ago although it is impacted, is causing an irritation in my mouth (probably from the position it is in...rubbing against my cheek) and I probably need to get it pulled. I dunno how much $$ that will be
To make things worse my FI's dog just died today.I am so stressed out about all of this (AF hasn't even come). I am trying to stay focused and motivated, but it is really getting hard. I am starting to get frustrated and I almost don't want to talk to anyone. I feel like I am in such limbo.
Sorry this is so long. It's 3:30am and I don't have anyplace else to go. Everyone around me is dealing w/ their own stuff and I just don't want to burden anyone. Could just use some support and some hugs. Thanks for listening (well, uh, reading)

I'm sorry things are so crazy.....
The only thing I would say is maybe look into getting a lawyer... I don't think they can fire you while you are on workers comp (I'm not sure), but I would just check anyway.
Hope your dad feels better soon too!!

I'm so sorry to hear about all of this!!! I would also talk to a lawyer about it and keep records of every time you call them--just write it down, in case you need it.And I'm so sorry about your DH's dog... that is so sad. I don't know why things always happen all at once.
Keep your chin up and always come on LIW to vent--

I am so sorry you are going through this difficult time. Things can only get better. Keep your chin up and if your job fires you then I say give them as much trouble as possible if you have the energy for it. They should not be kicking someone when theyre down. Where do you work?

Call Department of Labor and advise them that you were hurt on the job and were out...and you were never offered 'FMLA' (family medical leave of absence). Go on the internet and look up 'The Family Medical Leave Act'.Get yourself a lawyer and do not give up. You definetly have a case!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advise. I tried calling the dept of labor but i could not get through. the office is 5 minutes from here so I am just going to go there in person tomorrow. I am just shocked. I was always a good worker there and had gotten along w/ everyone. I feel that I don't deserve this.

no, it's illegal to fire someone that's out on comp, although companies with under 30 people in them don't have to follow the same work standard as bigger business, call the Department of Labor, and report them, also, call unemployment, and report them, unemployment will have to call them for a formal inquiry as to why they discharged you, and there is something called the Equal Employment Opportunity Coalition, EEOC, they are the people that you report sexual misconduct, age/racial discrimination, handicap discrimination, call them and find out whether or not you have a case, any good lawyer is going to tell you to do that anyway. You only have something like 180 days to file a claim.....all of these numbers are available from information, or in the telephone book (in the front), don't be diswaded by the difficulty of getting thru to the county, be persistent!!!! Good luck!

Well, they def have more than 50 employees. I don't want to give the company's name on a public forum. I will def follow through on all of your advice. When I s/w my boss he tried to claim that i abandoned my position, which is not true. I advised them every step of the way. I got the comp papers from them and everything. I am just so compeletly stunned. I asked him if he really believed I would just abandoned my job, he said not really, but it's all settled now.

Re: It's late and I need to vent...again (really long, sorry)
To top it off, the workers comp ins co that my job deals w/ will not let me see any closer doctor then one that is 40 minutes away from me for my IME. I have begged and pleaded for a closer doctor and they said no. It's going to be awful sitting in a car for 40 minutes w/ my back hurting the way it does. Sorry to complain.
