Momma Goldi ROCKS!!!

Just got off the phone with my mom and she made a proposition to me and FH. If we contribute a certain amount of $$$ or as much as we can to the wedding (which we were going to do anyway), she plans on giving us 2 plane tickets for our honeymoon with the frequent flyer miles that she has racked up over the years. She has a few hundred thousand that she can spare. We will have to pick a location where American Airlines flies to. I am excited!

Tonight I was at the expo in the city and the lady at the Sandals booth asked me about honeymoon stuff. I told her 'This is not my department...its all up to my fiance' As long as it is warm I dont care!

The whole thing is awesome yet still bittersweet. Over the years Mom and Dad got more and more used to using credit cards for things. Dad had a cash only business for over 50 years and hated credit cards. They only got one about 25 years ago when they had to rent a car on a vacation. As time went on and frequent flyer programs became more available, they charged EVERYTHING. Even my Masters. This was anticipation of a BIG trip they would take together after Dad retired.

Well Dad retired 8 years ago at 70. Mom isnt well and uses canes/wheelchairs to move around. They never really got around to planning a trip. Dad developed Alzheimers and then within the past year became critically ill now in hospice care. Mom's feeling is that we should have the trip that they would have taken in their best of health. She was sad as she made the offer, but we feel it is truely a beautiful and generous gift to us.

That's so awesome of your mom to do for you guys. Sorry it's so bittersweet tho, hope your parents are doing well! I'm sure they're happy to see your joy in their gift!

Awww...that's such a great thing for your mom to do. I'm sorry that it is bittersweet.
It really is a sweet thing for your mom to do for the both of you.
