My poor kitty is losing her hair!

This has been going on for about a year now if not longer.

I've brought her to the vet for it numerous times!

First they tell me that it is common in cats, but they don't know the name of it. They gave her a steroid shot for it and said if it doesn't get better in 2 weeks to come back for another shot.

Well it got better, but then it started to happen again.

I went to the vet again a few times after that, and they just treat it with steroids and thats it. Now the steroids don't even work.

The last time I brought her to the vet, she wouldn't even give her the steroid shots, they just said she much be allergic to something in the house! I had to stop feeding her anything with fish in it, I had to switch to stainless steel bowls, I had to change the cat litter to unscented and no perfumes or dye's. I had to make sure that there was no wool that she would lay on.

Well.........she is now worse than ever. It is getting really disgusting! What is wrong with my poor kitty??????? Why is she losing all of her hair??????

I am taking her to a new vet on monday evening, and hopefully they can be more helpful!

Has anyone ever heard of this or has this happened to your kitty??????

Re: My poor kitty is losing her hair!

It sounds like a thyroid issue. My mother's cat has the same problem. He's on daily medication now (for the rest of his life) but his hair has come back and he has gained weight (he was losing weight too). I'd get a second opinion from another vet and suggest the thyroid issue.

Good luck!

Re: My poor kitty is losing her hair!

How did they find out it was a thyroid issue? Did they have to do blood tests?

UGH! I can't afford a sick kitty.

2 months before the wedding our other cat swallowed a nickle and cost us 1200 bucks!

We just moved, and I can't afford anything right now!!!!! ú

Re: My poor kitty is losing her hair!

I believe they did discover it through blood work. The medication doesn't cost much, maybe $20.00 a month. But their diet has to change and they can get sick as a result of it. I didn't notice if you put how old your kitty is, but Shadow is 12, getting on in years.

Let me know how it turns out.
