Need Opinions . . . (esp. Giorgio's Brides . . .)

A friend of mine is going to a co-worker's wedding at Giorgio's on a friday night in the summer. She just met her about 6 months ago and they are not super tight, just very friendly at work. She wants to know what she should give as a gift. I thought $$ but she is not sure if she wants to because she doesn't know her that well. She wants to give a really nice gift from her registry or that goes with something from her registry (in the hopes that she can purchase it at a better price than at retail.) What would you do. I am a firm believer in giving $$ and at least covering each plate, so I do not feel that I am being objective enough to be of any help. What would you do?TIA!!!

ETA: This is her and a guest who will be attending

If I am not that close to the person I usually give 75-100 each for me and if I bring a guest. I have a friend who doesnt give $$ to weddings, he always gives a Waterford something; i.e. a pitcher, bowl, etc.

i would give $$ because if she doesn't know the bride and groom that well it will at least cover her plate:)

Sorry to say but everyone knows the newlyweds would like money so they are not in debt as a newlywed couple.

I'd definitely say $$$$
Enough to cover for her plate and if she's bringing a guest, she should cover her guest as well.
