New to planning for my wedding help!
Hello everyone This is my first time planning for my wedding!! I am excited!! We have agreed on a year and month-March 2004. I am not engaged yet but want to start looking around and seeing how much everything is. My questions are: Is March a good time to get married? for pictures, budget, and weather. I am looking for a reception hall with amazing grounds in hopes that the evening will be perfect weather. Should I consider an outside cocktail hour or is it too chilly in March? Help! Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you in advance your help.

January through March are considered 'off-season' according to many reception halls that we visited. I believe, in part, due to the fact that the weather is so uncertain during those months (not that this past year proves that point!). So budget wise, it may be a good month to book a hall for the best price. Good luck!

What kind of wedding are you looking to have? i.e. large, small, formal, informal, do you like glitz and glam or more subdued? It depends completely on your taste. For instance, my FH and I choose Fox Hollow as we like the low light, dark wood, quiet atmosphere for our formal wedding. Many people prefer the chandliers, marble, etc. while others prefer something over the water. Also, are you having any ethnic food like Italian, French, etc. or prefer more American? You will defintely get a cheaper price during March but the weather really is unpredictable. Our wedding is later October. We are also taking pictures at Old Westbury Gardens as just in case it rains we know we can still have some really special pictures taken indoors. Good luck!

March is great month for cost savings since it is not a heavy wedding/holiday/prom month. I wouldnt get my heart set on anything outdoors since the weather is very unpredictable. Its always nice to have the option if the weather is good, so you might want to check places like Westbury Manor or Watermill where they can easily do both.

Thank you...
I am having a large formal wedding. I prefer more glitz and glamour than a country setting. I live in Nassau County and most of my guests will be coming from the West and out of the state. So I am looking for a place closer to western Nassau that has grounds but Suffolk is okay too. My family is Hispanic and my fiance's is Carribean and Hispanic so I am looking to have some form of spanish platters if available. If this option is not possible I would prefer Italian. I will definately check out Westbury Manor although there are some mixed reviews on the board :-( Where is Watermill?

I hear a lot of good things about Leonard's now and also about Jericho Terrace. Chataeu Briand has a more art deco type of feel and is a little more money. If you want to travel in the other direction I just went to a really wonderful wedding at Russo's on the Bay. There is also the Garden City Hotel but I nothing about their prices.

The Watermill is in Smithtown, which might be too far East for your specifications. In Nassau, for glitz and glam you might try the Chateau Briand, Floral Terrace, or Jericho Terrace. They might be more your style. I can't comment on the food, as I have never been to an affair at any of these sites.

The Jericho Terrace I am not considering b/c I checked it out for my dad's 50th b-day, and the guy was not hospitable. We ended up choosing Leonard's instead which I love but they don't have any scenic grounds worth taking photos in. My best friend booked at the Floral Terrace and I just don't feel comfortable with attempting to book there. Although she says its okay... hi Viv :-) I appreciate everyone's advise! I have two years before the wedding but I want to get a head start on my search. Has anyone been or heard anything on the Roslyn Claremont Hotel?

Roslyn Claremont Hotel
This is a beautiful hotel, although I'm not sure it fits the 'glitz and glam' description that you're in search of. Also, it can be expensive - but, if price is not obstacle, check it out. I have heard wonderful things about the place. Good luck!

I have seen pictures of it and it looks really nice, but I know that pictures are very deceiving....so I am not trying to assume that what I see on paper is the same as what I see live. ThanksWelcome New Vendors
