North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

Hi Girls!

I tried to do a search on this, but did not see a lot of recent discussions. FH and I are debating over whether to use the cake NRC provides or go to an outside bakery. We really like the fondant, which NRC does not do, but I can't see spending the extra money for a cake.

NRC brides, did you use the cake from NRC or not? If so, can you provide some pictures? Did they work with you, or do they have certain styles that the make and that is it? Can you show them a pic and have them replicate it?

If you did not use their cake, did they replace the cake with anything or did you get credited? If you feel more comfortable answering this question in an FM, please do.

Thank in advance!!

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

I used their cake - but it was my preference. To me that's the last thing I'd want to pay for if it's already included.
I had my florist decorate a regular tiered cake. I wouldn't go bragging about it, but it was fine. I guess it depends on what's important to you.
They showed us a book of samples and we chose stacked or tiered and then the icing & filling. I'm not sure how willing & able they are to replicate a masterpiece you find in a magazine, but I'm sure they'd work with you.
From what I understand, you don't use their cake, you don't save a dime.

Here are some pics

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

From attending other people's wedding, unless they change the fondant 'taste', I prefer non fondant cake. Fondant cake are a bit bitter (the fondant part). On the other hand, they look more 'polished' and elegant

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

They don't normally charge to bring in your own cake, and if you do they waive the 'cake cutting cost'.

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

I got married there in Oct. We used their cake. Honestly I cannot remember what it tasted like. It looked beautiful though. It was square shaped, chocolate cake with canoli filling, i think. See? Its not that memorable! go with whats free. Spend the $ elsewhere. I agree fondant is yucky!!!

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

I was originally thinking about spending money a castle shaped cake, especially ebcause I heard that the NRC cake wasn;t that great, but revent brides have said it's ok, and most people dont even eat the cake. We're doing a full viennese, so I don't even care at this point. it's one less expense. Another cake is going to be at least $500, if not much more. I'd rather save the money!

Re: North Ritz Club - Cake or no Cake

this was my DH's secretary's cake.

it was pretty good from what i recall and was from NRC. i believe it had filling, so i only ate the cake part.

ETA--We did get an outside cake for our wedding and the bakery told us 'Fondant looks smoother and sometimes, prettier, but it doesn't taste as good and it's more expensive. I recommend the buttercream instead.' I was shocked and honestly would've gone with the fondant even with the cost had she not said that.
