NWR - teachers

Is there a website that has a list of salary charts for each district on LI? I know out of state and NYC posts their info online so you can compare districts easily.... I'm applying for jobs and curious... I'm a first year teacher with a Master's degree and not sure where I'd start at and i am always uncomfortable asking for that info on an interview or whatnot...

thanks!

Re: NWR - teachers

There's no site that I know of, but I'd search the Newsday archives. They put out a list every year!

(Just lists starting salary though - NOT starting salary w/ a masters) - and that makes a big difference.

The district FH works in is considered 'high paying' when you look at the starting salary - BUT the jumps aren't that large between ranks (masters, masters +25, etc.) Its a little misleading.

Re: NWR - teachers

You will NOT find this posted on-line or in print anywhere. Basically, each district is on their in regards to salary and benefits. These are NOT negoitable when you go to interview. The Board of Ed. for each district sets these each time the teacher's contract is updated. (most districts' contracts are good for a few years, so you will see how your salary will rise based on years put in and additional credits earned). However, when you interview with districts, at your final interview with the superintendent and you sign on the dotted line, they will show you the pay scale.... for most people, they just take the job, although if you have several offers, it could be deal breaker or maker for you. However, I would stay away from even mentioning salary on an interview with a school district. With a Master's degree, on Long Island I would say a starting salary between 48 and 50 K would be average. Then if you had teaching experience along with your MAster's it would be more depending on how many years experience you have.
