NWR: Fighting with Customer Service Reps on the phone. (Read only if you're bored)

I feel like a tool posting this but Im all steamed up.

So I have an MBNA Elite Rewards credit card that earns points that you can use for travel. So a couple of weeks ago I checked my balance, turned out I had enough for Mexico . I called about a week and a half ago to see how to redeem them. They explained and I hung up, waiting to run it all by FH one last time.

So I go to book today and I dont have enough points. I look at all of the ways I could have 'lost points'... one way was that they expire after 4 years. Well, it states clearly on the website 'Member Since: March 2003'. So, I should be in range to keep my points.

I call the CS hotline and it turns out that means I signed up ONLINE in 2003, that Ive had the card since June 2002 and lost 3000 points that expired. How deceptive is that? She said that the paper statements say your actual point expiration dates, but I always toss those because they boast that all of the most up-to-date info is online. I got a manager on the phone who said I can buy the difference in points for $50 which isnt bad, but thats not the point. Thats not comforting AT ALL. Why didnt the CS person tell me I was on the verge of losing points when I called 2 weeks ago??

We are talking about 6 days difference, deceptive 'Member Since' day, and the company refusing to cough up $50 to make me happy.

FH thinks I should call MBNA and tell them that their reward administrator is being deceptive. NO WHERE On their website does it list my account's points expiration date. Grrr..... the manager even agreed that its confusing.

Thanks for listening. Let me know if anyone is schooled at demanding things on the phone.

I feel your pain. I had a very similar experience on Monday.

Let me start by saying that I'm a procrastinator. I bought my laptop last year on the 4th of July. It was the 4th of July, so I'm positive of the date. I've been having some problems with it so I called Toshiba on Monday to purchase an extended warranty. They told me that I purchased the computer on June 22 so I wasn't eligible for the warranty. I said, I have the receipt at home, can I fax it to you on Wednesday. No, then your warranty will be expired. I asked to speak to a manager and the rep told me that there was no one there because it was the day before a holiday. I left a vm for someone and big surprise, I was never called back. I think that I spent an hour talking to 6 different people and no one was willing to write in my account that I had called to purchase this warranty prior to my expiration date. I'm just waiting for my computer to explode on me.
