NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

I've never used one, but I have a wedding next weekend and don't want to have milky white legs with my cute sandals! I've never done it before so any tips would be appreciated!

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

i like neutrogena with the bronze in it so you can see where it goes. just exfoliate and shave before. don't put on moisturizer and wash those hands right aways. it was about 8 bucks in cvs!

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

I've also tried Neutrogena and it works really well. My BM loves L'oreal Sublime. The one I used to use, which was fantastic and gave me such great color, was Toma's Tan Perfect. I bought it on QVC, but I believe they're selling it in stores like Walgreens now. It's usually $20 which includes self tanner, exfoliating scrub, a sparkly lotion to highlight your tan, and a body puff. I haven't used it for a few years (too busy with law school to apply self tanner!), but I highly recommend it if you want to get a dark, natural looking color. I have blonde hair and blue eyes and it didn't look fake or orange-y at all. The other two are cheaper (around $9) and and also good, but I find that you need to apply them every day to keep up the color. With Toma, you can skip 3-4 days once you reach the color you want. Hope this helps!

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

I forgot to mention that Toma goes on dark, so you can see where it goes. Also, not once did I EVER have streaks with it.

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

exfoliate and apply a moisturizer to your knees and ankles where self tanner tends to get darker.
I'd do it several days ahead of time because it gives you time to fix it if it doesn't come out how you want. I almost always get streaks of some kind and I have used several brands

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

I also vote for Neutrogena. I use the foam. It is bronze so you see where it goes.

I shave a few hours beforehand just so that I don't get any sort of reaction (I don't know if I would but to be on the safe side..) and then I just wet my legs, go over them with a loofah or body puff to exfoliate and then dry them completely and put lotion on the knees and ankles because sometimes the tanner can go on darker in those spots. The lotion makes it go on lighter. be careful you don't put it too close to your heels - that's a tell-tale 'fake tan' sign. With the foam they say one pump of it does the whole arm...it does..sometimes I use a wee bit more. And I use one pump for my calves/feet and rub it up my knees but I use 2 pumps each for thighs - and blend blend blend!

I use Estee Lauder for my face - I got it as a sample and I love it. But the foam works on my face too. Again blend alot!

Also, if you're wearing white or a light color, don't do it the day of the day you're going to wear the outfit! Do it the night before. Because you still get some that will rub off. Take a shower the next morning but dont use a puff or loofah or even a washcloth, just hands and soap so that you don't wash off all the tan. Some will run off but it's better than ruining your outfit!

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

Mary Kay makes a good self-tanner too. A couple of girls in my office have been using it and their tans really do look natural

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

I've used the Clarins-spray, that was okay and I used the neutrogena, foam which worked fine. Try the neutrogena first since it's cheaper. yes, make sure you don't wear light clothes after putting it on or on a really hot sweaty day because all self tanners tend to rub off on the inside of your clothing.

Re: NWR: Which is the best self tanner?

Neutrogena has a new one that is a gradual tan. You put it on once and if you want to go darker, you put it on again so you can't screw it up. I've also used Clarins, it works well, but it's not very gradual. If you miss a spot, and you're pale like me, you can definitely tell.
