Question for anyone on the pill

I am starting Orthoo Tri Cyclen Lo on Sunday March 5th. My wedding date is June 3rd and the Honeymoon is June 5-15th. I don't know how to calculate if I will have Aunt Flo on my wedding day or HM??? Can someone please explain to me how to calculate this. I know the package is a 28 day pack. If I would have Aunt Flo that day is there any way to change it. Please help!!!!! I would appreciate it. I am new to the whole pill thing.

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

It looks like you'll be ok, the 4th week on the pill you should have your period. Looks like you'll be do to get it the 18th if I did it right.

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

If you're afraid that you're going to get it on your wedding day or HM you can skip the last week of pills and just start a new pack. It'll skip your period for the month.

This is very true but make sure on the pack that you start early you should use a back up method as well.

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

Ok, I take the pill on a Sunday start. Which means, the first pill I ever took was on a Sunday and then each time I start a new pack-- it's on a Sunday. (Follow the directions in the pack on choosing which day you want to start it--you can choose any day of the week, it doesn't matter much, Sunday is most popular).

So I know that when I am done with my last pill in my monthly pack (it's always a Saturday) --from experience, I will get my period THAT Tuesday (so three days away). LOL-I'm always like, UGH TUESDAY IS COMING when I see that last Saturday pill, it STINKS! ....

Anyway, when you take your pill for the few months before your wedding you will get a feel for what happens to you--probably pretty similar to me. And you can get a sense of how it will work and you should be able to plan it by how long it takes you to get it from that last pill you take.
You'll also be able to tell when in the month you get it every month... I know I always get mine on the second to last Tuesday of the month...

To REALLY ensure that you will not have a visit from your favorite Aunt though--instead of taking the placebo pill when you are done with your last pill right before your wedding-- just go right into the next month. If you do this you will go two months without getting your period and then at the end of the second month take the placebo pills like normal and then you will get your period... but that's just to make sure that it does not interfere at all with your wedding/HM.
BTW, I would not suggest doing this more than 2 months at a time--doctor's say it's not good to go more than 3-4 months w/o your 'Aunt' b/c your period is like your 'girlfriend's' cleaning out LOL so corny!! But that was the only way I could put it haha. Good luck, hope i was able to help and it wasn't too confusing...

edited... did not realize that you could not say the other option for 'that stinks' !! lol

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

Keep in mind sometimes if you go straight into a new pack for the first time you may wind up with spotting. If you are going to play around with the timing of your pills, I would actually schedule your period for the week BEFORE your wedding so you have the next 3 weeks off.

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

just a suggestion because I am going through a huge med drama myself.... get your blood and hormone level taken BEFORE you start the pill. Gynos hardly ever do this. Had I had that done I would have seen my levels were off and being on birth control just masked symptoms of something that is becoming very common for child bearing women (PCOS). Also, if you have any history of hair loss in your family, I would think twice, the pill can aggravate hair loss.. JMO out of my experience.

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

During the fourth week, you will get your 'aunt flow.' However - if you don't like the time that it decides to show, you can talk with your OB-GYN and ask him/her how to get around it. I did this recently with mine and she told me to skip a week and go straight to the placebo pills. Make sure you take DR's advice over any of US, though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

you can plan it out with your gyno. The last time I went, she told me that since I'm getting married, we'll have to go over my current pill schedule to plan around the wedding. I actually have an appointment with her tomorrow (regular check up), so I'm going to start planning to get into the right 'timing'. Maybe you can ask yours, just to get it right and be safe doing it?

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

I don't think it's a good idea to skip your period with ortho tri-cyclen lo...i was on ortho tri cyclen for around 5 yrs, and since it's different levels of hormones each week, it doesn't work as well if you try to skip your period..u end up spotting which defeats the purpose...i switched to yasmin a year and a half ago, and it's the same level every day, and therefore easier to control when i can skip my period or not without spotting

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

Just remember to take the pill at the same exact time everyday, that's the only way to get Othro to work right. and you still may have some spotting in the middle of your cycle. I was on the full strenght Orthro for the last 5 years, and that always happened to me, also I would get a visit from my 'aunt' 3 days before my pack ended. My new doc just switched me so some other pill (some generic) that's alot like Yamine, so hopefully that will go away.

Do consult your OB/GYN before you decided to skip any pills.

HTH

Re: Question for anyone on the pill

I would definitely call your doctor and have them figure it for you. I just went for my check up today and my doctor figured out that I would have my period the week of my wedding. Since I am on Ortho tricycl. she told me to double up on the third week pills this month and next month and this week my period would come a week early and I wouldnt have it for the honeymoon. Good luck!
