silk v real flowers?

Did anyone do silk flowers for their centerpieces? I was at a craft fair today and this woman did really beautiful work, which made me consider silk flowers for the first time...

She said it would probably be ~$60/centerpiece. I haven't been to a real florist yet so I dont know if that's a good price or not.

does anyone have an opinion on this? can you give me an idea of what a centerpiece on a lift (so people can see and talk across the table) with fall flowers price might be?

my low CP, which is beautiful with different color roses, stock flowers and hydrangea is only $50 each. high are a little more. i'm using masters & co.

so $60 for silk is high i think. unless you're allergic to real flowers, i say go search around at local florists. you can do much better than that.

My cousin had silk cp and guests still have 4yrs later (my mom included). She had high cp , 3-4 dozen roses white or ivory (not sure). in addition, the petals had clear glue to give the effect of dew drops.

You could make them yourself. Go to michaels and buy a bunch of silk flowers and make them your self. You'll save a lot of money and you can make them any time before the wedding.

The only reasons I would do silk are to save money, or to allow people to keep them indefinitely. At $60 per centerpiece, you could get a nice c-piece with real flowers, I think.

If I weren't trying to save money, I would do real flowers, because I like them and I think they look a lot nicer. IMO, even if you do them yourself, to get a full arrangement, the individual stems at Michael's or A.C. Moore start to add up and you may not save a whole lot of $. I did do my own c-pieces to save $, but it was sort of a combination of pre-made things, so it didn't take me any time to make them.

I have read about brides having really good luck over at Sam's Club. I don't know if the one on Long Island has a floral dept but it is worth giving them a call. Example: (C&P)

[one 2 dozen konfetti roses bouquet
two 1 dozen offwhite roses bouquets
three single offwhite rose bouts
eight centerpieces, each consisting of a dozen offwhite roses and some greens

the total price including the cost of the flowers and the cost of arranging is $205. no delivery. i will pick them up the day before the wedding.

The roses are $0.53 each. Each arrangement (i have 11) is $9 and the bouts are $5 each]

I never really thought about silk flowers until I saw that woman's work and how beautiful it is... and I'm going to do fall colors, so it's seasonal and people would actually be able to use them in their homes if they wanted, not just take home flowers that will die a few days later...

I want to have the centerpieces lifted or in a tall skinny vase so that they arent annoying for people to talk across the table... I will be moving to Maryland actaully next September, so I'll be doing my last month or so of wedding planning from out of town, so I dont think I would want to personally take on the responsibility of making the CPs myself, hehe...

silks can be really beautifully arranged and can get just as pricey as the real deal. there are many pros and cons - but IMO real flowers win out.

If you were looking for something more cost effective then I would say go for it... but if you are spending $60 per piece then I would go for real. Personally, I would rather take those home vs the silk.

My florist said that sometimes silk flowers could be more expensive than real. I guess it just depends on the type of flowers and size of Bo-K's.

check out snowprincess' review on the review board..she used silk flowers for her wedding and they looked beautiful.

I'm not a big fan of silk, there is just something so much nicer with real flowers.

my silks were expensive because i wanted ones that looked really real - i am allergic to flowers

if you are going to use silk flowers - it is better to buy them in the city - in the flower district - much better quality then michales or ac moore

My mom made all of our bouquets out of artifical and everyone loved them!! They were just as beautiful as real ones! And a fraction of the cost!!

My mother and I are doing silk flower for one of my friends for their wedding in February.

We just went through the proccess of choosing all the flowers and placing the order at Patchogue Floral's Fantasy Land. (My mother gets a 30% discount there).

I think that the flowers that she chose look real! I think that her bouquets and arrangements are going to be beautiful and NOBODY is even going to realize that they are silk!

I say shop around! Find out what is less expensive and go with your gut!
