Tricky invitation wording...need advice

Ok....we're paying for probably 2/3 of the wedding..maybe a little more. My dad and his wife are giving us some $, my mom and stepdad are giving us some $...and the other situation is that FH's father died and so how does the wording go?? sooo confused....

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

I have a similar situation- mom and dad are paying for 1/3, we are paying for the rest, his mom is giving us a generous gift AFTER the wedding and his dad died when he was young.
We are putting- together with our parents- since his mom is remarried and it got so confusing.

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

Something like.

(You two) request the honor of your presence at their wedding ........... and then I've seen at the bottom of the invitation
Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXX
Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXX

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

i agree - sounds like it would definitely flow more easily if you put both sets of parents' names at the bottom of the invite. this way you mention everyone who is contributing, but avoid the 'son of' line, since fh's dad passed away.

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

What about 'together with our parents' that's what I'm doing even though tey aren't contributing jack - my mom wanted to be 'included' somehow.

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

Well we are paying for most the wedding .. my mom paid for my dress and his mom paid for the favors and rehersal dinner so we did something similar to this. Maybe it will help you.

The honor of your presence is requested at the marriage of

Jane Doe
daughter of mr. and mrs. xxxxx

to

John Doe
son of the late Bob Doe & Mrs. Doe

so it has all the names on it but dosent specifically point out who is paying/hosting etc.

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

What if your parents are paying about half, his mom is paying about half, you are paying a little and his dad is not paying for a thing?

i think it's appropriate to put only those parents who are paying on the invite - because technically, they are doing the inviting. but that might make his dad feel bad... how about, 'together with their parents'?

Re: Tricky invitation wording...need advice

I know what 'etiquette' says in regard to invitation wording, but quite frankly, if everything about your wedding is supposed to be 'your day, your way' and you would like to include a parent(s) on the invitation out of respect or affection whether they're helping to pay or not, who is going to know and who cares?

My FMIL is 80 years old and is not contributing a dime. But I included her on the invitation simply because I wanted too and no one will be the wiser.
