Re: HELP!-Repost to Sort of a repost: 'breaking:' things to parents
You aren't being a baby! It's your wedding and you aren't Greek so you have the right to say half is a bit much. I think 1/3 is very generous. How many Greek guests are you going to have at your wedding?
We are lucky to have an Irish band that plays both American and Irish music and knows enough of both to do an entirely American music wedding or an entirely Irish music wedding. We are doing one Irish set because my FH is Irish as are a good chunk of our guests.
It's a little different though because all of the music is in English in my case!

You should have what you want. Get an American band and a Greek DJ.

Re: Vent!
My mom is GO, Dad is Catholic, they got married in the GO, but their children (me and my 2 bros) were baptized and raised in the Catholic Church....so don't worry about that part!1/3 Greek, 2/3 American - more than generous.
We're having Middle Eastern Music at our wedding, but it's going to be A LOT less than 1/3 - we're going to have literally 10 minutes at the most of Arabic music considering a majority of our guets are American.

Re: Vent!
It also sounds like you have given in to her in a big way.Don't let her manipulate you. I guess I'm not as nice as you. I would be putting my foot down, but I don't have to live with the situation.
Sorry you are having stress.

I feel so bad for you! You are being more than accomodating to her! You have made enough crazy changes to suite her taste, do what YOU and FH want!!!

Re: Vent!
No matter when you get married, the day/time/place/season etc isn't going to be perfect for everyone so do what you want to do! She got you to have a Sat night wedding as opposed to a Fri night so don't give in to the time change. Just make it easy, tell her the hall won't let you and leave it at that.Maybe, since you do have a good relationship with her, prior to the wedding, you should sit down with her and discuss some of your feelings. Can you get an American Band and a dj that will play Greek music?

Re: Vent!
You cant please everyone .... and thats one thing that we as brides try to do - but it gets to the point where you have to put your foot down when you reallly want something one way. I think 1/3 greek music is perfect - your pleasing all your guests. She doesnt understand that your family wont understand when that music is playing - and most likely they wont be dancing - and im sure that you want all your guest to dance and have a good time.As far as the band goes - chek out Paris - they are a bit pricey ($7500 for 5 hrs) but I heard that they are good. I never heard them perform Greek (only italian and american) but their voices are really good - and you wont have to worry abt having a band and a dj. heres the website: http://www.soundcheckentertainment.com/t1.php?u=Parismusic&page=
Good Luck!

1/3 is very generous and I think the problem is you are being overly accomadating. Rember it is your and FH day. I wouldn't let her know what you decide about the music. Just say there will be greek music there.Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Vent!
First, just an fyi - when you meet with the priest at the GO church - he will discuss how the children will be raised. I dont know if the priest requires you to say that any children of the marriage will be raised in the GO faith since both DH and I are GO. I do know that the priest will ask this question though because i know several people who were not GO that married in the GO church and they got this question. So just giving you a heads up that the question is coming your way at some point. As for the band - Greeks tend to get overexcited about Greek music since there are so many specific traditional dances. I just read that you found an american band that hires greek singers. I think that is a fair compromise although you will have to also hire a bouzouki player since that is a key instrument in most if not all greek traditional songs.

Re: Vent!
Can you wait until after the wedding to discuss the religion that you plan to raise your children? If you were getting married in the Catholic Church they ask the question of what religion you will be raising your children as well. They scared me because when we went to the church they had a number of questions they needed to ask us separately and I got to go first. They were those kinds of questions though.
