wedding dresses - rent????
Has anyone thought of renting a wedding dress? A friend suggested it to me and at first I thought it was ridiculous. Then when I thought about it logically...You only wear the dress once, it costs so much to store afterwards and chances are noone else will wear it, etc., Maybe it does make sense. Any input on this?? Does anyone know of any good places to rent dresses (or buy?) in Manhattan or Long Island?

I think there used to be a place in Manhattan called One Night Stand that rented expensive evening wear. They may have wedding gown rentals too. Also, if you're looking for bargains, check the local want ads and penny-saver papers. Our local penny-saver here in the Boston suburbs has 2 or 3 in every issue - sometimes never worn.

wedding dresses - rent????
I know two friends who have rented their wedding dress. But the place has since closed down. Definitely makes sense if you have your heart set on one of the more expensive styles. However, one of my friends paid approx. $350 (veil and headpiece incl) to rent and that is only half of what I paid for my dress so I figured I just buy the one I found.

wedding dresses - rent????
I just recently heard a story from a friend about a girl whose bridal shop was having trouble with the alterations and just couldn`t seem to get the dress to lay right. After several attempts, they still couldn`t get it and the date was quickly approaching. Basically, the girl ended up with no other option but to rent a dress and she never went back for her original dress. And it turned out the dress she rented she liked better anyway. $2000 seems pretty high for a rental to me, but that`s because all total with head piece and everything my attire came out below $1500. Plus, I`m just too sentimental to not keep the dress that I`ll be wearing on the most important day of my life. There are many beautiful dresses out there for less than $1000.
