am i being a bish? long and possibly boring

I have to throw a going away party for MIL and I DONT WANNA!!!! she's moving out of the country. dont get me wrong, she's a dear and I love her but this family CANT plan for the life of them!!!

Last Friday, I get a text from DH's cousin.. 'Lets throw a suprise party for mom and we all need to buy her lots of presents! We all know how much she loves presents!' shoot me

Then I get a call from his aunt saying that we need to throw a party, what should we do? Well obviously we have to have it at me & DH's place. Whatever. Here's the kicker. We are going away next weekend and it was too soon to plan it for this past weekend. Plus, yeah, i was kind of in the hospital.

So its going to be Wednesday night. We both don't get home till 7pm everyday and then I have a super huge day Thursday and I need to be well rested.

DH's aunt called me this morning to ask what's the plan and what am I going to cook?! When she TOLD me that I was hosting this party, she said it would be potluck. Now I'm cooking and she's bringing RICE. Thanks a lot.

Can I just fake sick and boycott this stupid thing?!

Woah on a Wednesday night when you guys both get home kinda late...that's dedication I'll say.

Just order food and pick it up on the way home. I wouldn't worry about cooking to be honest with the weekend you've had.

can you somehow convince them to go to dave and busters? it gets you out of the house and wednesdays are usually 50% off games (even bowling)

Wow! They are super pushy!!! I guess they figured that since you planned an awesome wedding...a going away party would be no big thing for you.

DH's family does the same thing!!! 'Oh....I'll come and bring rice!' C'mon! Bring something big to compensate for the fact that no one wants to hist this party and I get stuck with it!

Blah...make it a pizza night and call it a day!

wow - you're not being a bish at all ... that's really obnoxious that they are pushing this onto you guys!

i'd order in and ask his aunt to give money, not rice!

or just cancel altogether using the hospital thing as an excuse

Why didnt you politely decline and say you have work early morning the next day! when do they expect you to cook on a weekday when you come home at 7 pm
...Why cant any other cousin, aunt, or do you have sister in laws have the party.

I'm so annoyed for you. Trust me, i like having parties and cooking too, but everything needs to be planned, and timed accroding to when ME, I, the party thrower is free....
